Hilton Head Island, SC – The Falcons have a full week of tennis scheduled in South Carolina over spring break. Messiah will take on Greenville College, Gordon College, East Texas Baptist University, and will wrap up up on Thursday when they face Nazareth College.
Monday, March 13 - Messiah College 2, Greenville College 1 | Results
The Messiah College men's tennis team opened up their season against Greenville College on Monday morning. The Falcons came out victorious in the doubles matches by a score of 2-1. Due to rainfall, Messiah was not able to complete their singles matches, but they are scheduled to finish those games on Tuesday, March 14.
Devin Esch and
Austin Warren had a strong performance for Messiah and defeated Greenville 8-3.
Alex Mantsevich and
Blake Ross also performed well and had a commanding 8-2 victory in their match.
Tim Dunn and
Connor Graybeal had a close match, but fell to the Panthers 8-6.
Messiah will be back on the court on Tuesday, March 14 as they take on Gordon College at 1:15 p.m. They will look to finish their singles matches against Greenville at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Tuesday, March 14 - Gordon College 5, Messiah College 1 | Results
The Falcons faced a very talented Gordon team on Tuesday afternoon and fell to the Scots 5-1.
Devin Esch and
Austin Warren picked up Messiah's only victory of the afternoon by defeating the Scots 8-4 in doubles play.
Due to rain in the forecast, the match was played to decision and the bottom three flights of singles were unable to play.
Tim Dunn (7-6 (7-4), 6-0)
Connor Graybeal (6-3, 7-5) and
Devin Esch (6-4,6-3) were able to compete for Messiah but they were defeated by Gordon.
The Falcons will have an early start on Wednesday morning as they face East Texas Baptist University at 8:15 a.m.
Wednesday, March 15 - East Texas Baptist University 7, Messiah College 2 | Results
The Messiah College men's tennis team hit the courts again Wednesday morning and competed against East Texas Baptist University. The Falcons and Tigers were able to complete a full match today as the weather finally cooperated. ETBU had an outstanding performance and defeated Messiah 7-2.
In doubles competition,
Tim Dunn and
Connor Graybeal picked up their first win of the week and defeated the Tigers in a close 9-8 (10-2) set.
Alex Mantsevich was victorious against his opponent (7-6, 6-4) in singles play.
Messiah will compete in their last match of the week on Thursday, March 16 when they take on Nazareth College at 12:30 p.m.
Thursday, March 16 - Messiah College 7, Nazareth College 2 | Results
The Falcons finished their spring break trip on a strong note by defeating the Golden Flyers of Nazareth 7-2.
In doubles action, both
Tim Dunn and
Connor Graybeal (No. 1), and
Devin Esch and
Austin Warren (No. 2) defeated their opponents by a score of 8-2.
Alex Mantsevich and
Blake Ross came close but fell to Nazareth 9-8 (7-3).
Messiah picked up five out of six victories in singles competition.
Tim Dunn (6-3, 6-2),
Connor Graybeal (6-4,6-3),
Devin Esch (6-1,6-2),
Austin Warren (7-5,7-5), and
Blake Ross (6-2,6-3) were all successful for the Falcons. Although
Alex Mantsevich fell to his opponent 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), he battled all the way until the end and was defeated in a tiebreaker set (8-10).
The Falcons will be back in action on March 23 at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The match is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
