Glenside, PA – No. 10 Messiah College women's lacrosse team picked up their fifth conference win in dominating fashion by defeating Arcadia University 16-0. This is the Falcons first shutout of the season. The Falcons moved to 10-2 overall and remain undefeated in the MAC Commonwealth with a record of 5-0.
Messiah's well-balanced attack allowed for great success over Arcadia.
Allie Colson led the Falcons and collected four goals and one assist.
Shayna Delaney,
Eliza Lortie,
Annika Johnsen and
Stephanie Athens each added two goals for Messiah.
Jenna Stover,
Kendra Herbenar,
Elle Bargar, and
Ida Ehrhardt each scored one for the Falcons.
Impressive Attack
Messiah displayed an aggressive and constant attack in their victory over the Knights. The Falcons controlled the pace and tempo of the game and camped in the offensive zone for a majority of the 60 minutes.The Falcons out-shot the Knights 39-2 and collected ten of their 16 total goals in the first half alone. Messiah collected eight of their 10 first-half goals in the last 15 minutes of play. As mentioned earlier,
Allie Colson led the Falcons with four goals and only attempted four shots. Colson now has 20 goals on the season. Messiah received five free position shots and two goals came from these opportunities. The first was
Stephanie Athens at the 23:03 minute mark in the first half, she cashed in her free position attempt to give Messiah the early 1-0 lead. The second was
Ida Ehrhardt's goal midway through the first half to put the Falcons up 3-0.
Solid Defense
Messiah only allowed the Knights to shoot two shots on goal all game and
Alexa Dipeso stood firm in the cage not allowing any shot attempts to come through. This is the Falcons first shutout of the season. The last time Messiah had a shutout was against the United States Coast Guard Academy Mar. 9, 2016 by a score of 16-0 as well. Not only did the Falcons dominate on the offensive end of the field, but also the defensive zone. Messiah won 13 of 18 draw controls and caused 16 of Arcadia's 23 turnovers with their aggressive defensive play.

The Falcons had an outstanding week defeating No. 4 Franklin and Marshall and picking up a solid conference win. Messiah will be back in action on Apr. 19 when they host Lebanon Valley College at 1:00 p.m.
