Grantham, PA – No. 5 Messiah women's lacrosse closed out the regular-season in impressive fashion as they completed an 8-0 mark against conference opponents. The win, 15-3 over visiting Widener, pushed Messiah to 13-2 overall. The Pride fell to 4-11 overall, including 1-6 in the MAC Commonwealth.
First to 15
The Falcons scored early, late, and everywhere in-between. Messiah went up 12-0 in the first-half, and then tallied the first three goals of the second period to build a 15-0 lead. Widener tallied their first goal at the 19:00 mark of the second-half, and they added two more as the clock continued to run out.
Messiah tallied their 15 goals on 30 total shots, while Widener took just eight shots on the afternoon.
Impressive Streak
Today's decision for Messiah made it an even 30-straight regular-season conference wins. The streak includes three-straight 8-0 seasons, and also the final six games of the 2014 regular-season. Messiah last lost to a MAC Commonwealth opponent back on Mar. 29, 2014 when they lost 11-8 at Lebanon Valley.
In the Box
The Falcons dominated possession and territory, and that was helped along by grabbing 16 of 20 total draw controls. The Falcons also made good on 12-13 clears as they overwhelmed the Pride on all areas of the field.
Jenna Stover led Messiah with four goals on four shots, and she also handed out an assist. Stover also joined
Kathryn Milwicz and
Kendra Herbenar as Falcons to cause three turnovers.
Allie Colson,
Stephanie Athens, and
Ida Ehrhardt each tallied twice in the win. Athens led the team with four draw controls.
Next Up
The MAC Commonwealth Tournament. Messiah will await the final seeding and match-ups to be determined within the conference, though it confirmed that the Falcons will be the No. 1 seed and will host so long as they're alive.
