Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Messiah College Women's tennis team picked up their third sweep of the season by defeating the King's College Monarchs 9-0 on Thursday afternoon. The Falcons moved to 8-7 and remain 5-1 in the conference. They will play their final conference match this Saturday before heading to the MAC Commonwealth tournament.
In doubles action, Messiah dominated King's.
Carly Dove and
Emily Wichert (No.1 doubles) won 8-4,
Sydney Schandel and
Amanda Adams defeated their opponents 8-2, and
Robin Schwarzmann and
Gabby Brooks swept the Monarchs 8-0.
The Falcons also competed at a high level in singles play and won all six matches.
Amanda Adams (No.4 singles) swept Martina Gale 6-0,6-0 and
Robin Schwarzmann (No. 5) swept her opponent in the first set and then won the second set 6-2. Â
Carly Dove (No. 1) was challenged in her first set (6-4), but owned the second set and won 6-1.
Sydney Schandel (No. 2) and
Sarah Summerson (No. 6) both defeated their opponents 6-1, 6-0.
Emily Wichert had to battle in her match-up. Wichert won the first set 6-4 and dropped the second set 4-6. She went on to win the tie-breaker set, 10-8.
Messiah looks to take this win into their weekend conference match-up when they host Alvernia University. Match play will begin at 1:00 p.m.
