Wilkes Sweeps Messiah in NCAA First Round

Amherst, MA – The Messiah College men's tennis team made their fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament on Friday morning when they took on MAC Freedom opponent Wilkes University. The Falcons dropped to the Colonels 5-0 and were eliminated from the national tournament in the first round.

The Colonels worked quickly through doubles taking all three matches in dominating fashion. The closest match of doubles play came in the No. 1 match when Tim Dunn and Connor Graybeal fell to Courtney Murphy and Troy Haas 8-4. Devin Esch and Austin Warren were defeated 8-1, while Alex Mantsevich and Blake Ross also dropped 8-1.  

In singles action, Wilkes picked up two quick wins to move on to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. Tim Dunn (No. 1 singles) was defeated 6-1, 6-1 and Alex Mantsevich lost in No. 5 singles to Troy Haas 6-3, 6-2.

The Falcons had a great season after going 7-0 in the MAC Commonwealth and winning their fourth-straight conference title. Devin Esch, Austin Warren, and Joel Johnson will be graduating for the Falcons, but Messiah will return four out of their top-six players next season.
