Williamstown, MA – The Messiah College women's tennis traveled to Williams College to compete against Carnegie Mellon in the program's second ever NCAA Tournament. The Falcons fell in the first round by a score of 5-0 to the Tartans.
Carnegie Mellon swept through the doubles winning all three matches 8-0. The Falcons would need to win five out of six singles matches to move on to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
In singles action, the Tartans picked up where they left off and won two quick matches.
Meagan Scala (No. 4) fell to her opponent 6-0, 6-0 and
Amanda Adams (No. 6) dropped to Marina Selenica 6-0, 6-1.
While her singles match did not finish,
Kelly Hopkins did the most damage against her Tartan opponent, winning two games in the first set (5-2).
The 5-0 loss ends an incredible season for the Falcons. Messiah won their second MAC Commonwealth Championship with a 5-3 victory over Lebanon Valley College and punched their ticket for a back-to-back trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Meagan Scala and
Sydney Schandel will be graduating this spring and both ladies had outstanding careers on the women's tennis team. The Falcons will return ten players for this upcoming fall and will look to capture their third-straight MAC Commonwealth title.
