Grantham, PA - The Messiah College men's tennis team will head back to their fifth-straight MAC Commonwealth Championship after sweeping the Arcadia Knights 5-0. The Falcons didn't allow the high winds to be a factor in their performance during the semifinal match on Wednesday afternoon. No. 1 seeded Messiah swept all three doubles matches and did not look back.
Tim Dunn and
Connor Graybeal (No. 1 doubles) had an outstanding comeback to win their doubles match 9-7 over Arcadia's Nicholas Simeone and Wesley Wei.
Devin Esch and
Austin Warren (No. 2) stepped on the gas and dominated in their set, 8-2.
Alex Mantsevich and
Blake Ross (No. 3) were neck and neck with their opponents but won two straight games to pick up the 8-6 victory.
In singles action,
Devin Esch picked up a quick victory for the Falcons by defeating John Zinzer 6-1, 6-0.
Alex Mantsevich found the next win for Messiah which sealed the deal. Mantsevich had a tight first set and won 7-5. He then dominated in the second set (6-3) to pick up the Falcons fifth victory of the afternoon.
Tim Dunn finished his match right after Mantsevich picked up his win. Dunn defeated Arcadia's No. 1 singles (Nicholas Simeone) 6-1 and 7-5.Â
Messiah will host the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Saturday, May 6 at 12:00 p.m. The Falcons will play the winner of No. 2 Stevenson and No. 3 Lebanon Valley. Check
