Annville, PA – The No. 8 Messiah softball team is heading into the MAC Commonwealth Tournament this weekend and will face either Hood or Arcadia on Friday afternoon, and today they were honored with seven All-MAC Commonwealth honors. Samantha Esper led the way as she was named Rookie of the Year.

Four Falcons joined Esper on the First Team, with two others named to the Second Team.

Esper is having a tremendous first-year campaign as the starting third baseman. She has played in 38 games for Messiah and is batting .373, has recorded 44 hits, and scored 26 runs on the year. Across the 16 MAC Commonwealth conference games, Esper batted .453, had 24 hits, and scored 11 runs. Defensively she is holding a solid .947 fielding percentage.

She also reached 200 career hits earlier this season and set a new program record for career triples with 16.

Pitcher Madelyn Yannetti joins the First Team as well and this is her first All-Conference honor. Yannetti is leading all MAC Commonwealth pitchers with a 1.30 ERA and is holding opponents to a .197 batting average. She has thrown 118.1 innings and is 15-3 on the year.

She is also holding a team-leading 20 walks and defensively at first base is boasting a .988 fielding percentage.

Rounding out the First Team honors is Amber Bingaman who was a Second Team selection last season. Bingaman holds two positions for the Falcons; she plays center field and left field. Offensively she is holding a .367 batting average, has 44 hits, and third on the team with 29 RBI's. She also has a .508 slugging percentage and has scored 20 runs.

Juniors Carrie Fix and Shannon Denny round out the honors as both were named to the Second Team.

As one of the starting pitchers for Messiah, Fix is holding a 1.50 ERA and has limited opponents to a .199 batting average. She has thrown 121.2 innings and holds a 14-2 record so far this year. Offensively she is continuing off the success from her first two years batting .344 with 43 hits, 27 runs scored, and 19 RBI's.

Denny is picking up her first All-Conference honor and rightfully so as the junior outfielder is having a strong season so far. She is batting .333, has scored 18 runs, and has 23 hits. Defensively Denny has been solid making some great plays and boasting a .980 fielding percentage.
