GRANTHAM, Pa. – Messiah Executive Director of Athletics and Fundraising Jack Cole announced this week the appointment of Pete Micklewright as the Falcons' head golf coach for 2017-18. Micklewright joins the Falcons with 37 years of experience as a golf professional, with the last 34 years coming at Blue Ridge Country Club.

"I am very pleased that Pete has agreed to be the next head golf coach at Messiah College," said Cole. "Pete has extraordinary experience as a golf professional, and I was impressed with not only his knowledge of golf, but also his desire to work with student-athletes. He is an excellent addition to the coaching staff and I look forward to working with him as we prepare for the new year."

In addition to working as the head professional at Blue Ridge, Micklewright served as the General Manager of The Clubs at Colonial Ridge from 2014 through 2016. There, he oversaw the operation of two different courses: Colonial Golf and Tennis and also Blue Ridge.

Micklewright and Blue Ridge are no strangers to Messiah, as former head coach Troy Boone and the Falcons called Blue Ridge their home course for many years. In Boone's tenure with Messiah, the Falcons won three MAC Commonwealth Championships.

"I am very excited to become the new golf coach at Messiah College," said Micklewright on his appointment. "Coach Boone did a great job and will be a hard act to follow. This year's team is young and less experienced as some of the teams the past few years, but I look forward to the opportunity and challenge of continuing to improve and grow the program. Our goal will be to compete as hard as we can by concentrating one shot at a time."

Micklewright was inducted into the Capital Area Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2016 after a long and prestigious professional career that included being named the PING Regional Golf Club Fitter of the Year (2006) and the winner of the Philadelphia PGA Section Golf Professional of the Year (2005). Throughout his career he won many other honors as a player, including the Central Counties PGA Chapter Golf Professional of the Year in 1988, and twice the Philadelphia PGA Section Junior Golf Leader Award (1989, 1992).

Since 2012 he has served as the Dick Smith Cup West team captain, and he's also served for nine years on the Hall of Fame Committee for the Philadelphia PGA Section.

Micklewright graduated from Trenton State (now TCNJ) in 1976, and also completed MBA courses from Rider College (now Rider University) prior to obtaining his PGA Membership in 1982.
