Falcons Roll Blazers, Finish Conference Slate Undefeated

FREDERICK Md. - Following a 4-0 victory over the Hood Blazers on Wednesday afternoon, the No. 2 Messiah field hockey claimed the top spot in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament after completing the conference season a perfect 7-0 record. Four different Falcons scored in the victory with Hannah Palm, Mackenzie Brubaker, Emily Knepp, and Josie Weaver each scored in the match.

The Falcons outshot the Blazers 31-0 in the contest, forcing the Hood goalie to make 20 saves in the match.

The Falcons will complete the regular season with a match against William Smith in the road Saturday at noon.

Quick Start
The Falcons started with a flurry of activity in Wednesday's game, earning three penalty corners and taking five shots in the first five minutes of the match. Messiah finally broke through with a goal from Hannah Palm just over six minutes into the match. The tally gave Messiah a 1-0 lead and was the eighth of the season for the sophomore.

Following the goal, the Falcons continued the pressure and broke through for their second goal in the first 10 minutes of the match with a score from Mackenzie Brubaker just 8:03 into the match. The goal was the first of Brubaker's career and gave the Falcons a 2-0. Despite heavy pressure for the next 20-plus minutes, Messiah would not add to their lead until the the 32nd minute.

Adding Insurance
With a 2-0 lead, Emily Knepp scored 31:15 into the contest off an assist to Avery Martz. The goal was the first of the career for Knepp and the assist marked the first career point for Martz. The Martz-Knepp combination gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead heading into the second-half.

Messiah added a fourth and final goal on their final shot of the match off the stick of Josie Weaver with less than 10 minutes remaining in the match. The tally was Weaver's second goal in the last three matches and the Falcons earned the 4-0 victory.

What's Up Next
With the victory, Messiah moves to 7-0 in the MAC Commonwealth this season and improves their overall record to 16-0 on the season. Messiah claimed the Conference Regular Season Titles and earns the top seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament that begins next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against the fourth-seeded Lebanon Valley Dutchmen. The Falcons with wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they travel to William Smith to take on the Herons at 12:00 p.m.
