ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Falcons struggled early on and lost 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-16) against the Dutchmen. Messiah played well in the begin of the three sets but heavy pressure from LVC proved to be too much as the Dutchmen pulled away. The Falcons are now 13-15 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
How It Happened
Messiah started from behind in all three sets and never quite recovered. In the first set, Messiah was able to tie things 6-6 and 7-7 but LVC utilized heavy pressure to force the Falcons to take two timeouts but the Dutchmen held momentum and ended the first set 25-14. LVC set the tone of the second set by starting with a 5-0 the forced the Falcons to talk things over but the Dutchmen went on a 9-4 run out of Messiah's timeout. The Falcons used errors from LVC to try to get back into the set but LVC continued swinging to defeat the Falcons 25-12. The third set started with a 5-1 run by the Dutchmen that was followed by back to back play from both teams.
Mary Underman and
Lanae Hunsberger were able able to help the Falcons' squad pull within three with the score set at 7-4 but LVC began their charge again with heavy offense to take a 16-7 lead. Utilizing LVC errors and kills from
Hannah Berger and
Natalie Marsch, the Falcons were able to draw within six to make the score 19-13 but the Dutchmen collected back-to-back kills to force Messiah to take a timeout. The Falcons were able to collect kills from
Natalie Marsch and
Lanae Hunsberger but the Dutchmen ended the match with a kill and a service ace to finish off the night.
In the Box Score
The Falcons had seven players register kills with
Mary Underman (5) and
Hannah Berger (4) leading the way. On the defensive side,
Amanda Dahlman collected 13 digs while
Heston Cowoski chimed in for seven of her own.
Katie Wilcox put up seven assists and
Heston Cowoski registered six assists.
Hannah Berger was in on four blocks while
Mary Underman and
Payton Manwaring were there to help on three each.
