ANNVILLE, Pa. – With the regular season coming to a close on Saturday and the Commonwealth Championships in full swing, the Middle Atlantic Conferences (MAC) has announced the 2017-18 All-MAC Commonwealth teams. In his just his sophomore campaign,
Colin Sareyka was named to the First Team for his outstanding play as the Falcons' point guard and leading scorer. Sareyka was the only non-senior named to the First Team, and one of just two underclassmen to receive All-MAC Commonwealth recognition this year.
This season, Sareyka led the Falcons in scoring (18.0 ppg), assists (5.0 apg), and steals (50). Those marks also rank fourth, second, and third, respectively, in the Commonwealth. Sareka tallied more than 20 points in half (13-of-26) of Messiah's games this season, including 31-point performances in both matchups against Albright. In the first contest with Albright on the road, Sareyka provided the highlight of the year when he banked in an and-one three-pointer with four seconds left in triple overtime to tie the game at 100 before sinking the free throw for the win.
With an 8-8 conference record and thanks to tiebreakers, Messiah earned the 4-seed and hosted 5-seed Arcadia in the play-in game of the Commonwealth Championships. Unfortunately, the Falcons came up short in their first postseason appearance in four years, falling victim to a red-hot shooting performance by the Knights on Monday.
