XML Box Score 3 HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Messiah College men's tennis team has a full week of tennis scheduled in South Carolina over spring break. The Falcons had to cancel their first match against Cornell University due to rain on Monday, but will take on Millikin University, Greenville University, and will wrap up on Friday when they face Iowa Central Community College.
Tuesday, March 13 – Messiah College 1, Millikin University 8 (Results)
Messiah opened up their spring season on Tuesday morning after their match on Monday was canceled due to rain. The Falcons fell to Millikin University 8-1 and were swept in doubles play all by a score of 8-2.
Galen Fitzkee (No. 3 singles) won his singles match 6-2, 2-6 (10-6).
Alex Mantsevich had a close match in the No. 4 singles spot, but fell 6-3, 5-7 (7-5).
Andrew Bookman (No.5 singles) also put up a good fight but was defeated 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 10-3.
Messiah will be back in action on Thursday when they take on Greenville University at 8:00 a.m.
Thursday, March 15 - Messiah College 0, Greenville University 9
The Falcons took on the Greenville University Panthers on Thursday morning at Chaplin Park in Hilton Head, S.C. Greenville swept the Falcons 9-0 in both singles and doubles action.
Alex Mantsevich and
Andrew Bookman (No.2 doubles) had an impressive performance in doubles play, but they fell to their opponents 8-4. The Panthers dominated the singles matches as well, however
Connor Graybeal (No. 1 singles) and
Galen Fitzkee (No. 2 singles) battled hard and each won four sets in their matches (6-2,6-2), (6-1,6-3).
The Falcons will take on Iowa Central Community College tomorrow, Friday Mar. 16 to wrap up their spring break play. The match is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
Friday, March 16 - Messiah College 3, Iowa Central Community College 6
Messiah fought hard in their last match of their spring break trip, but fell to Iowa Central 6-3. The Falcons had an impressive showing in doubles action in which they won two of the three matches. No. 2 doubles
Andrew Bookman and
Alex Mantsevich and no. 3 doubles
Bryson Boettger and
Keller Martin both defeated their opponents 8-6.
Keller Martin (No.6 singles) was the only Falcon to secure a victory in singles play; he defeated Mark Mosher 6-4, 6-4.
Bryson Boettger (no. 5 singles) also had an impressive showing winning the first set 7-6 but then falling 6-0 (10-7).
Messiah will be back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 28 when they travel to Juniata College. Match time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
