Falcons Edged By Tritons In Close Battle

XML Box Score 1 | XML Box Score 2 | XML Box Score 3 HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Falcons opened their 2018 spring season at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club this week over spring break. Messiah was supposed to commence on Monday, Mar. 11 but their match against Cornell College was canceled due to rain. The Falcons will still take on Millikin University and will wrap up on Thursday when they face Greenville University.

Tuesday, March 13 – Messiah College 3, Millikin University 6 (Results)
 Messiah was defeated by Millikin University 6-3 in their opening match of their spring break trip. In doubles play, Carly Dove and Amanda Adams had a close battle but fell to their opponents 8-5.

In singles action, the Falcons won three different matches. Kaitlyn Russell (No. 2 singles) defeated her opponent 7-6, 6-1, while Amanda Adams (6-3, 1-6, 10-6) and Sarah Summerson (6-2, 6-3) were also victorious. Emily Wichert put up a good fight, but was defeated 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. 

Messiah will be back in action on Thursday, Mar. 14 when they take on Greenville University.

Thursday, March 15 - Messiah College 9, Greenville University 0
The Falcons had a phenomenal performance on Thursday morning and swept the Panthers of Greenville University 9-0. Kelly Hopkins and Carly Dove (No. 1 doubles), Kaitlyn Russel and Amanda Adams (No. 2 doubles), Emily Wichert and Gabby Brooks (No. 3 doubles) each won their matches by a score of 8-1.

Messiah continued to dominate their way through singles play. No. 4 singles Amanda Adams swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to get things started for the Falcons. Kelly Hopkins (6-1, 6-4), Kailtyn Russel (6-2,6-0), Carly Dove (6-3,6-0), Emily Wichert (6-4,-6-4), and Sarah Summerson (6-3, 6-2) all secured victories in singles action for the Falcons.

Friday, March 16 - Messiah College 4, Iowa Central Community College 5
The Falcons battled hard against the Tritons from Iowa Central but were defeated 5-4. In doubles play, Gabby Brooks and Emily Wichert (no.3) were dominant and defeated their opponents 8-2. They were the only Falcon pair to find success in double action.

Messiah split with Iowa Central in singles play and picked up three wins. Sarah Summerson (no. 6 singles) started things off for the Falcons and swept her opponent 6-0,6-0. Amanda Adams (no. 4) won her match 6-2, 6-2, while Emily Wichert also picked up a win after battling in the first set (6-4, 6-0).

Messiah will be back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 3 when they travel to Hood College. The match time is set for 3:30p.m.
