PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - No. 12 Messiah women's lacrosse scored early and often in a 16-2 rout of Whitman College on Thursday to finish their spring break set with a pair of wins.
Messiah improves to 4-2 on the year, while Whitman falls to 1-4 overall.
The Falcons grabbed a quick 3-0 lead less than five minutes into the game, but the Blues came back with a goal at the 23:34 mark to cut the deficit to two. However, Messiah rattled off ten unanswered scores to close the opening half, including the next four in a span of just two minutes, and took a 13-1 lead into the break.
Whitman got on the board first in the second-half, but Messiah would score three more times before the final whistle to earn the 14-goal victory.
Mckenna Edwards led the Falcon offense with five goals on just six shots, while
Courtney Wagner added four goals and an assist.
Annika Johnsen also notched two goals and an assist, and five other Falcons registered a goal.
Messiah outshot Whitman 23-6 in the game, including 18-3 in the first-half.
It was the largest margin of victory for the Falcons since last season on April 13, when Messiah shut out Arcadia 16-0.
Messiah will now return home and get ready to travel to the University of Mary Washington on March 24, with game time set for 1:00 p.m.
