GLENSIDE, Pa. - Messiah men's lacrosse held Acadia to just four goals and led for most of the game as the Falcons took down Arcadia University on the road Thursday night.
It was the lowest point total for an opponent since Messiah defeated Alvernia University 20-4 just under a year ago on Apr. 5, 2017.
With the win, Messiah improves to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth, while Arcadia falls to 4-2 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.
Garrett Amsbaugh was huge on the offensive end for the Falcons, tallying four goals and an assist on eight shots.
Joseph Franken also had a multi-goal game with two scores while adding an assist.
Evan Stoker had a career game in goal, saving 14 of the 18 shots that Arcadia put on frame.
The Knights got on the board first as they were gifted an extra-man opportunity just 20 seconds into the game as
Lorenzo DiPasquale was penalized for slashing. Clo Muscara was able to take advantage of the opportunity just three ticks before the 30-second penalty expired with his 17th goal of the season.
The rest of the opening quarter was all Messiah though, as
Joseph Franken and
Mitch Salanty both scored in the next three minutes to give Messiah a lead they would never relinquish in the game.
Luke Hall also added a score just 36 seconds before the end of the quarter to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead.
The second quarter started very similarly to the first, as the Knights scored less than a minute in to cut the deficit to one. However, Messiah's counter was impressive yet again, as Amsbaugh tallied twice before the break to give the Falcons a 5-2 advantage.
Arcadia scored the opening goal of the third quarter as well, but two more scores from Amsbaugh gave Messiah a 7-3 lead heading into the final 15 minutes. The Falcons were finally able to be the first to get on the board in a quarter in the fourth, as
Dylan Gillisse found the net with 8:10 to play. Three minutes later,
Brandon Witmer notched his first goal of the season to give Messiah their largest lead of the game to that point, 9-3.
Muscara would score again to cut the defict to five, but two more scores from Franken and
Hunter Bellows solidified the 11-4 victory for Messiah.
The Falcons will now return home on Apr. 4 to face Lebanon Valley College at 7:00 p.m.
