GRANTHAM, Pa. - After suffering their first conference defeat to MAC Commonwealth-leading Stevenson on Saturday, Messiah men's lacrosse came out with a vengeance on Wednesday night against Hood College, scoring the game's first ten goals on the way to a 20-6 victory.
There was nothing that Hood could do to stop the Falcon firepower all game, and especially in the first quarter as Messiah jumped out to an 8-0 lead after fifteen minutes of play. The Falcons were still able to outscore the Blazers in every period after that as they outshot Hood 59-24 (37-18 on goal) in the game.
Joseph Franken tied the Blazers all by himself with six goals to go along with two assists to lead Messiah.
Liam Lilienthal also added four scores and one helper, while
Garrett Amsbaugh continued his breakout season with three goals and two assists. Also of note, sophomore
Kyle Mayer entered the game late and proceeded to score his first collegiate goal on his first career shot.
Leading by a considerable margin throughout the game, the Falcons were able to empty their bench, including running out a different goalkeeper each period.
Evan Stoker started the game and recorded the win, saving three shots and not allowing a goal.
Logan Pagano,
Beau McCarver, and
Jacob Fahnestock each played 15 minutes as well.
Messiah improves to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in the MAC Commonwealth, with two games remaining on the conference slate. Hood falls to 7-5 on the season and 1-4 in the conference.
The Falcons will now travel to Albright College on Saturday for an afternoon contest at 1:00 p.m. Messiah will be looking to avenge the defeat at the hands of the Lions in last season's MAC Commonwealth semifinal, in which Albright won 14-10 and ousted the Falcons from playoff and NCAA Tournament contention.
