ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Messiah College men's tennis team defeated MAC Commonwealth opponent Lebanon Valley College 7-2 on Saturday afternoon. With this win, the Falcons moved to 2-0 in the conference.
Messiah took care of business in doubles action and swept the Flying Dutchmen 3-0. No. 1 doubles,
Tim Dunn and
Connor Graybeal dominated and picked up an 8-1 win, while
Alex Mantsevich and
Andrew Bookman (no. 2) secured an 8-3 victory.
Galen Fitzkee and
Keller Martin had a tough match up in the no. 3 doubles position but were able to pull out the 9-7 win.
Tim Dunn (6-1, 6-2) led the way in singles action with an impressive win in the no. 1 spot.
Galen Fitzkee (no. 3) won his first set 6-2, but dropped in the second set 3-6. However, he was able to bounce back and win the third 10-1.
Alex Mantsevich (no. 4) won the first set 6-4 and was tested in the second but won the tie-breaker (7-4) to pick up a 7-6 win.
Andrew Bookman (no.5) was the other Falcon who found success in singles play. Bookman won the first set 6-3 but dropped the next set (5-7). He went on and won the deciding set 10-5 to give Messiah another win in singles competition.
Messiah will be back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 10 when they host Stevenson University. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
