ANNVILLE, Pa. – In less than 24 hours Messiah women's tennis will be competing in their third-straight MAC Commonwealth Championship and today they were honored with four All-MAC Commonwealth awards after going undefeated (7-0) in conference play this spring.
Jon Arosell led the way with Coach of the Year, while
Kelly Hopkins was named to the First Team for the fourth-straight season.
Carly Dove and
Kaitlyn Russell were also recognized with Second Team honors.
Jon Arosell picked up Coach of the Year honors for both the men's and women's programs this season. This is Arosell's third Coach of the Year recognition on the women's side in his seven seasons at the helm. He is looking to lead his team to their third-straight MAC Commonwealth Title this Saturday when they host No. 2 Lebanon Valley.
Kelly Hopkins received her fourth First Team honor in her final season with the Falcons. Hopkins and teammate
Kaitlyn Russell have held an impressive 6-1 record within conference play this spring and had a thrilling 9-7 victory over Arcadia in the conference semifinal to help the Falcons advance to the championship.
Carly Dove was named to the Second Team this season for her steady play in both singles and doubles. In the regular season, Dove won six out of seven conference matches and finished with a 9-5 overall record in singles play. In conference doubles action, Dove held an undefeated (7-0) record as she headed into postseason play.
Kaitlyn Russell had another impressive season for the Falcons and was named to the Second Team. As previously stated, Russell and Hopkins had an outstanding season as the No. 1 doubles team with a 6-1 record in the conference. During the regular season, Russell maintained a 5-2 record within the conference at the No. 2 singles position.
