GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah men's tennis team played the first match on the newly renovated Criste Courts on Saturday morning against the University of Scranton Royals. The Falcons dropped the match by a score of 6-3. Jarod Snader and AJ Swanson highlighted the effort by teaming up to claim the No. 3 doubles match before each winning their singles matches in convincing fashion.
The Royals jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to victories of 8-0 at No. 1 doubles and 8-1 in the No. 2 match. Messiah did salvage a point from doubles play thanks to a strong combined effort from Jarod Snader and AJ Swanson. The duo earned an 8-4 victory heading into singles play.
Needing three team points to claim the match, Scranton claimed the top four singles matches to lock up a victory. On the top four courts, the Royals dropped just six games en route to straight-set victories in each match.
Just as they did in their doubles match, Snader and Swanson put up a fight in singles play. On court five, Snader made quick work of his Scranton opponent, winning in straight-sets 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 6 singles match, Swanson claimed the match 6-2. 6-3 to account for the third and final point of the day for Messiah.
The Falcons will next take the court on Saturday, Sept. 29 when they travel to York College for a match against the Spartans at 12:00 p.m.
