MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - The Messiah women's tennis team opened up their fall season by suffering a 9-0 defeat against the visiting Franciscan Barons on Saturday afternoon at the West Shore Tennis Club. The Barons swept their way through doubles play before earning all six point in singles play.
In doubles play, the Falcons' top team of
Kaitlyn Russell and Hannah Murray put up the strongest fight, winning four games before falling 8-4 to the Franciscan duo of Madelyn Conrad and Mana Binette. The Barons went on to take the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches by scores of 8-2 and 8-1, respectively.
In singles play, Messiah's strongest outings came from
Amanda Adams and
Emily Wichert. Playing in the No. 2 singles match, Adams claimed five total games in the match, but fell 6-3, 6-2. In the No. 3 singles match, Wichert also took five games before falling 6-2, 6-3.
The Barons went on to sweep the six singles matches in straight sets and solidify the 9-0 victory.
Messiah will be back in action in their fall season when they travel to Gettysburg College on Saturday to take on the Bullets at 1:00 p.m.
