YORK, Pa. - The Messiah men's swimming team fell to the York Spartans on Saturday afternoon by a score of 154-90. Messiah won five of the 14 events contested in the dual with
Mason Kennedy and
Ridge Hagar each claiming a pair of wins while
Daniel Logan earned first in the 100 Free.
Mason Kennedy claimed both the 1000 Free (10:50.02) and 400 IM (4:41.33) in convincing fashion. Kennedy won the 1000 Free by more than 13 seconds ahead of York's Brandon Tarbrake (11:03.56). Later in the dual, Kennedy and
Anthony Pompei finished first and third, respectively i nthe 400 IM. Kennedy won the event in a time of 4:41.33, six-plus seconds ahead of Tarbreak (4:47.55) again. Pompei took third with a time of 4:51.03.
In addition to his pair of victories, Kennedy also finished in second-place in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:19.62.
Ridge Hagar was the other Falcons with a pair of victories to his name. The sophomore claimed the 50 Free with a time of 22.34, just a fraction of a second ahead of York's Nick Foltz (22.62). Just a couple of events later, Hagar came from behind to win the 200 Back. His time of 2:00.05 was less than a half second ahead of Greg Williams (2:00.51), who Hagar tracked down in the final leg to win the race.
Daniel Logan got to the wall in 49.23 to claim the 100 Free by nearly a second and a half over York's AJ Loehr (50.78). Logan also earned a third-place finish in the 200 Free with a time of 1:47.33. He was just a four hundredths of a second out of second place while Keven Stahl won the event in a time of 1:45.51.
Kurtis Platteel and
Tyler Wilkinson each earned second-place finishes in the 100 Back and 500 Free, respectively. Platteel finished the 100 Back in a time of 57.34 and Wilkinson touched in 5:01.27 in the 500 Free.
Eli McCabe turned in his season-best time of 5:20.98 in the 500 Free while taking fourth in the event.
In the 100 Fly,
David Welch finished in third-place with a time of 59.13.
Messiah earned a pair of second-place finishes in the two relay events contested in the dual. The team of Wilkinson, Hagar, Pompei, and Logan took second in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:41.83 to kick-off the dual. At the end of the dual, the crew of Hagar, Platteel, Wilkinson, and Logan finished the 200 Free Relay less than a second behind the leaders with a time of 1:30.22.
The Falcons will next be in action next Saturday when they head back into conference play at 1:00 p.m. when they host Misericordia and Albright in Fredericksen Natatorium.
