COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The No. 25 Messiah wrestling team earned four victories the North/South Duals with wins over No. 19 Stevens (28-17), Southern Maine (24-19), Wilkes (26-16), and Rhode Island College (46-5). Following their strong day on the mats at Ursinus, Messiah moves to 10-3 in duals this season.

Messiah defeats Stevens - 28-17 - Results
The Falcons jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after
Josiah Gehr handled Stevens' Alchil Vega with a technical fall in the first bout of the morning at 125 lbs. Gehr earned a dominating 18-1 victory in 5:04 to put Messiah in front. The Ducks' Joey Borai earned a first period fall at 133 lbs. and Troy Stanich picked up a technical fall at 141 lbs. to give Stevens an 11-5 lead after three matches.

Messiah proceeded to claim three of the next four matches with
Stephen Maloney earning a 14-11 decision at 149 lbs. and
Matt Pangle and
Dan Swarr claiming majors at 165 lbs. and 174 lbs., respectively. Pangle nearly picked up a fifth team point with a technical fall, but fell just short earning a 15-1 victory, while Swarr controlled his match with a 13-4 margin.

Following Swarr's victory, Messiah held a tight 16-14 lead, but that advantage flipped after Stevens claimed the 184 lbs. bout with an 8-4 decision. With the Falcons now trailing 17-16 heading into the final two bouts,
Joe Embleton came up with a clutch fall in 4:33 at 197 lbs. to put the Falcons in front. Dennis Karas earned a forfeit victory at 285 lbs. and Messiah claimed the first dual of the day with a 28-17 victory.
Messiah defeats Southern Maine - 24-19 - Results
It was a tight, 21-19 match heading into the last bout of the dual with the Falcons holding a slim lead.
Denny Karas earned a close 4-1 decision in the heavyweight bout to lock up the victory for the Falcons. Messiah built their advantage with technical falls by
Sean Redington (125 lbs.),
Stephen Maloney (149 lbs.), and
Brian Shermeyer (174 lbs.).
Sean Redington got the Falcons off to a quick start with a dominating 16-1 technical fall in the 125 lbs. bout, but the Huskies earned a pin and a major decision at 133 lbs. and 141 lbs. to take a 10-5 lead through three bouts. Following the major decision at 141 lbs. for Southern Maine,
Stephen Maloney got the Falcons back on track with a 17-0 technical fall at 149 lbs.
Lee Cassel and
Matt Pangle followed up with decisions at 157 lbs. and 165 lbs., respectively. Cassel earned a tight, 8-7 victory before Pangle claimed a more comfortable 10-4 decision. Another technical fall followed for the Falcons with
Brian Shermeyer claiming a 19-1 victory at 174 lbs. to bump the Falcons' lead to 21-10.
Southern Maine earned a first-period fall at 184 lbs. and a decision at 197 lbs. to pull with two points at 21-19, but
Denny Karas sealed the victory for Messiah with a 4-1 decision in the final bout of the dual.
Messiah defeats Wilkes - 26-16 - Results
The Falcons closed out their dual with Wilkes by winning three of the final four bouts to carry Messiah to a 26-16 victory. With Messiah trailing 13-10,
Brian Shermeyer earned a major decision at 174 lbs. with a 16-2 victory before
Victor DeFrance (184 lbs.) and
Carter Urich (285 lbs.) both earned pins to lock up the victory.
It was a back-and-forth battle through the first six matches of the dual with Wilkes. Messiah earned technical falls from
Josiah Gehr (125 lbs.) and Stepehn Maloney (149 lbs.) by scores of 19-0 and 17-0, respectively. Despite the pair of technical falls, Messiah trailed 13-10 heading into the 174 lbs. bout.
Brian Shermeyer put the Falcons back in front with a major decision in the 174 lbs. bout by a score of 16-2. Messiah led 14-13 and pushed that lead up to 20-13 just minutes later thanks to a first-period pin by
Victor DeFrance. Against Wilkes' Alesal Santans-Quintana, DeFrance picked up his fourth fall of the year in just 1:28.
Following a decision going in favor of Wilkes at 197 lbs.,
Carter Urich earned a pin in 3:14 to cap off the victory and give Messiah their third dual win of the day by a score of 26-16.
Messiah defeats Rhode Island College - 46-5 - Results
The Falcons dominated the Anchormen to the tune of a 46-5 victory. Messiah claimed nine of the 10 bouts with two pins, three technical falls, a major decision, a decision, and a pair of forfeits.
Sean Redington earned a 16-6 major decision in the first bout of the match at 125 lbs. After the Anchormen forfeited at 133 lbs.,
Nick Nunez and
Stephen Maloney claimed back-to-back technical falls at 141 lbs. and 149 lbs., respectively.
Kevin Edwards claimed a tight, 8-6, victory over Zach Ford at 157 lbs. to give Messiah a 23-0 lead.
Matt Pangle picked up a first-period pin in 2:20 at 165 lbs. and
Brian Shermeyer claimed a 17-1 technical fall at 174 lbs. to bump the Falcons' advantage to 34-0. The Anchormen earned their only points of the match with a technical fall by Michael Gallagher at 184 lbs.
Joe Embleton won by forfeit at 197 lbs. and
Denny Karas won the final bout of the dual with a pin in 3:38 at 285 lbs.
