Seven Different Falcons Tally In Win Over Hood

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah field hockey team claimed a 12-0 victory over Hood College on Wednesday night on Anderson Field to finish off a perfect 7-0 MAC Commonwealth campaign and move the team to 13-4 overall. Seven different Falcons tallied a goal in the win, with Josie Weaver, Ashley Levesque, Hannah Palm, and Makayla Malcolm all scoring multiple goals in the win. Notably, Makayla Malcolm recorded her first career hat trick as a Falcon.

Messiah got the scoring started early, earning five goals within the first ten minutes of the contest. The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday afternoon for senior day on Anderson Field, taking on William Smith College at noon.

Fast Five
Before both teams could put their shoes on, Josie Weaver put the Falcons on the board. Just 45 seconds into the contest, Weaver took a pass from Hannah Palm and slotted it into the back of the cage to put Messiah up 1-0. Mackenzie Brubaker added to the lead a few minutes later before Weaver scored her second goal of the game. Weaver took a pass from Taylor Wiederrecht and found the cage to give Messiah the 3-0 lead in the fourth minute. Later in the period, Abby Boyer and Ashley Levesque both found the cage to push the Falcons' lead to 5-0 by the end of the first period.

Four More
In the 17th and 20th minute, Hannah Palm tallied her ninth and tenth goals of the season to put Messiah up 7-0. Ashlyn Smith then assisted on two-straight goals for the Falcons, one coming from Emily Knepp (25th minute) and the other Makayla Malcolm (27th minute). The four second period goals extended the Falcons' lead to 9-0 at the end of the first half.

Make It A Hat Trick
With a late second period goal, Makayla Malcolm earned the next two goals for Messiah in the second half. Malcolm earned the only third period goal for the Falcons to give her squad a 10-0 lead over the Blazers in the 39th minute. Just over 12 minutes later, Malcolm struck her first career hat trick to extend Messiah's lead once more, giving the Falcons a 11-0 lead. Just  58 seconds later, Ashlyn Smith slotted the ball to Ashley Levesque who tapped the ball in to earn her second goal of the season and cap off Messiah's 12-0 victory over the Hood Blazers.

The Falcons maintained possession steadily throughout the contest, earning a 43-0 advantage in shots, putting 31 on frame.
