READING, Pa. - The women's track and field team traveled to Alvernia University to compete in the 2019 Golden Wolves Rust Buster. The Golden Wolves just built a new indoor field house that will be home to this season 2020 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Falcons placed in the top-five of 12 out of the 15 events contested, picking up wins in the 60m, 200m, 5,000m, 4x400m relay, high jump, long jump, and weight throw.
In The Results
Highlighting the day for the Falcons was senior
Leanne Weaver who battled her way through the 5,000m, crossing the line 18:11.65, putting her second all-time in program history. Messiah also took second through fifth in the event with
Sarah Codd coming in second place with a time of 19:05.62.
Kathryn Wiederrecht set a new personal best in the 60m, running a time of 8.01 seconds to win the 60m dash.
Ellie Longshaw follow closely behind to take second after finishing the race in 8.39 seconds. Wiederrecht had a strong showing in the 200m, finishing in second place with a time of 27.32.
Taylor Wiederrecht won the event after cross the line in 26.99 seconds. Wiederrecht also won the high jump, clearing 1.65m (5' 5"), going perfect all the way through until her attempts at 1.70m. T. Wiederrecht went on to win the long jump as well, finishing with a mark of 5.08m after six attempts.
Kathryn Wiederrecht also showed well in the 60m hurdles, finishing in second place with a time of 9.64 seconds with teammate
Kelsie Kennedy crossing the line in 9.78 seconds to take fourth.
Olivia Cory (2:31.38) and
Laura Kruth (2:32.91) took second and third in the 800m with teammates
Emma Johnsen (2:33.76),
Brieanna Hess (2:37.44),
Cassidy Chandler (2:39.29),
Catherine Arke (2:42.44), and
Sarah Blessing (2:42.84) taking fifth through ninth, respectively. The Falcons completed an equally impressive finish in the mile, taking second through seventh place. Leading the way for Messiah was freshman
Chloe Wester who utilized a strong kick in the last lap to finish in second with a time of 5:39.64. Katelyn Prothero came through the line just seconds later take third with a time of 5:43.91.
In the pole vault,
Bayley Hess led the way for Messiah, taking third place after clearing 2.82m (9' 3") on her third attempt.
America Cervantes came in fourth after clearing 2.30m (7' 6.5"). Senior
Lila Goodhile led the pack for Messiah in the shot put, taking fourth with a throw of 10.01m. In the weight throw, it was
Amanda Brown who led for the Falcons, earning the victory with a throw of 10.58m while
Erin Haines took third with a 9.38m throw.
What's Up Next
The Falcons won't return to the track until after Christmas break. When they return, the team will travel to Susquehanna University on Jan. 17 and 18.
