MAC Press Release
ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Middle Atlantic Conference announced the 2018-19 All-Conference teams and end-of-season award winners today and Messiah was decorated with three honors.
Alecia Rohrer led the way as the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year in her senior season with the Falcons, while head coach
Mike Miller was named the MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year for the second-straight season after leading Messiah to a perfect, 16-0 conference record.
Maci Thornton joined Rohrer, receiving First Team recognition.
Alecia Rohrer earned both Player of the Year and First Team recognition after being one of the most dynamic players in the conference. A walking double-double, Rohrer has been a dominant offensive and defensive player inside the paint for the Falcons, averaging 15.3 points and 13.4 rebounds per game, while collecting a total of 54 total blocks on the year. She is currently ranked fourth in the nation in double-doubles with 18 and leads the conference in rebounds (336). Rohrer collected her 1,000th career point against Hood College on Dec. 5, she finished that game with 24 points and 13 rebounds.
Maci Thornton was also named to the All-Conference First Team after an incredible regular season with the Falcons. Thornton leads the Falcons in scoring and is ranked second in the conference, averaging 18.0 points per game. She is also a tenacious defender for Messiah and has collected 82 steals so far this season. Thornton ranks first in the MAC Commonwealth in three-point field goals per game (2.6) and steals per game (3.3). She also joined Rohrer in reaching the 1,000 career point club on Jan. 9 against Stevenson University.
Head coach
Mike Miller earned his second-straight Coach of the Year honor from the conference after the Falcons had a record breaking season with 24 overall wins and 16 conference victories. This is the first time Messiah has gone undefeated through the conference regular season since they went 10-0 in the 2007-08 season. Miller is currently in his 33rd season at the helm of the program and has an impressive overall record of 647-237 (.731 winning percentage).
The Falcons get the Conference Tournament underway tonight when they host the fifth-seeded Lebanon Valley Dutchmen in the semifinal at 7:00 p.m. on Jordan Court. Messiah is looking to claim their third-straight MAC Commonwealth title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
