Complete list of Academic All-District honors
Messiah History of Academic All-District and All-America
Â
GREENWOOD, Ind. - On Thursday afternoon, the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District Teams for women's basketball were announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Among the honorees were a pair of Messiah Falcons with
Alecia Rohrer and
Maci Thornton earning First Team accolades in District Four (PA) for Division III. Messiah was one of three schools in Division III to earn multiple Academic All-District honors for women's basketball along with Gallaudet University and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
Â
The honors for both Rohrer and Thornton come on the same day that the duo was named First Team All-MAC Commonwealth. The pair are the first Messiah women's basketball players to be named Academic All-District since Dori Gyori was named a First Team Academic All-District and All-American during the 2012-13 season. Eli Cook (2005-06) and Nikki Lobach (2007-08) are the only other Messiah women's basketball players to even earn Academic All-District.
Â
Alecia Rohrer earned her first Academic All-District thanks to a strong senior campaign on the court and in the classroom. The Manheim native, holds a 3.82 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as a criminal justice major. She is averaging 15.3 points and 13.4 rebounds per game, while collecting a total of 54 total blocks on the year. As mentioned she was named First Team All-MAC Commonwealth while also being honored as the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year earlier today.
Â
In the backcourt,
Maci Thornton leads Messiah's scoring effort, averaging 18.0 points per game.
The senior also earned her first Academic All-District honor this season with a 3.88 cumulative GPA as a public relations major. She is the conference leader in three-point field goals per game (2.6) and steals per game (3.3) while being a menace on the defensive end with 82 steals on the year.
Â
Both Rohrer and Thornton collected their 1,000th career point this season, becoming the 22nd and 23rd members Messiah's 1,000-point club, respectively.
Â
The Falcons are in action on Thursday night to begin the 2019 MAC Commonwealth Tournament when they host the fifth-seeded Lebanon Valley Dutchmen at 7:00 p.m. in the conference semifinals.

About the CoSIDA Academic Honor
Â
Each year, CoSIDA elects Academic All-District members across NCAA Division I, II, III, and "College Division." The College Division is comprised of NAIA, two-year, and Canadian student-athletes. Student-athletes are nominated by current CoSIDA members—usually an institution's Sports Information Director— and must carry at least 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Nominated student-athletes must also be of sophomore athletic eligibility and be significant contributors to the success of their team.
Â
Those selected as First Team Academic All-District will be eligible for the All-American team to be selected later in the season.
