BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Messiah College women's track and field team showed well in day one of 2019 Indoor MAC Championships, highlighted by a program record in the 4x200m relay. The squad put together a time of 1:48.27 and consisted of consisted of
Ellissa Slader,
Kathryn Wiederrecht,
Ellie Longshaw, and
Rebecca Crosley. At the end of day one, the Falcons are sitting in sixth-place with 16 team points behind Lebanon Valley (5th, 25 points), Eastern (4th, 36.5), Widener (3rd, 37), Misericordia (2nd, 45.5), and Stevenson (1st, 51).
In the Results
Kathryn Wiederrecht highlighted the Falcons' efforts in the 60m dash, being the only Falcon to advance to tomorrow's finals after running a time of 8.13. K. Wiederrecht's time moves her from fifth to second on the all-time top-10 list. Heading into tomorrow's final, K. Wiederrecht is seeded in fifth-place.
In the 5,000m,
Sarah Codd and
Leigha Southall made their way onto the podium after running a 18:43.04 and a 18:49.58 to take sixth and seventh-place, respectively.
Abby McMinn and
Kathryn Wiederrecht made a strong charge through the finish line in the 60m hurdles to advance to tomorrow's finals. McMinn is seeded second after running a personal best time of 9.29 seconds. K. Wiederrecht is seeded in seventh after coming through the line in 9.62 seconds. K. Wiederrecht's time moves her into sixth-place on the top-10 list.
As mentioned, the women's 4x200m relay put up a record-setting performance in today's race, running 1:48.27, good for third-place at the championships and first in Messiah history.
The distance medley relay squad fought their way through the line in 12:56.54 to finish in fourth-place. Their time was just .39 seconds behind third-place finishers, Widener.
Emma Fertig got things started before Messiah before passing the baton to
Rebecca Crosley. After running the 400m portion of the race, Crosley handed it off to
Brieanna Hess, who made a good move in the 800m portion of the race to set up
Mikayla Lewin who closed the race for the Falcons.
