HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Messiah women's tennis team started their 2019 spring break trip with a tough, 5-4 loss against the Allegheny College Gators. The Gators claimed two of the three doubles matches before the two sides split the six singles matches.
Gabby Brooks was the only Falcon to go 2-0 on the day, claiming the #4 singles match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 while also teaming with
Rachel Marcroft for an 8-3 victory at #3 doubles.
Messiah will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Edgewood College in Hilton Head. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
How It Happened
Allegheny took the top two doubles matches by identical scores of 8-4. The Falcons did earn a point in the final doubles match with
Gabby Brooks and
Rachel Marcroft topping the Gators' Candale Burkhammer and Satory Chin by a score of 8-3.
Gabby Brooks kept her momentum going with a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set victory over Hannah Schaffer on the fourth court. The Falcons'
Sarah Summerson also earned a convincing victory on the fifth court, defeating Candale Burkhammer in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-1. In #2 singles,
Amanda Adams earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Allegheny's Miharu Koh.
Allegheny claimed the other three singles matches, earning victories at #1, #3, and #6. On court six,
Robin Schwarzmann kept it close, but Satory Chin claimed a 7-5, 6-1 victory.

Messiah has three more matches remaining in Hilton Head this week with matches against Edgewood, Wisconsin - La Crosse, and Macalester. The Falcons takes on the Edgewood Eagles tomorrow at noon.
