Falcons Split On Last Day Of Spring Break Outing

PLANT CITY, Fl. - The Falcons opened up the day with their second win over Babson, topping the Beavers 4-0. Both teams were scoreless through four innings but the Falcons' offense added a run in the fifth, a run in the sixth, and two runs in the seventh to secure the 4-0 victory.

Messiah dropped their last game of the day against TCNJ 5-1. The Falcons scored first with one run in the bottom of the first inning but TCNJ scored two of their own in the top of the third and three more runs in the top of the seventh, defeating the Falcons 5-1.

Messiah Defeats Babson 4-0
The Falcons opened up the game with two ground outs and a fly out. Babson started off their half of the first inning with a single but a strikeout, a pop up to second base and a ground out to second base kept the runner stranded.

Jaelynn Habrold hit a double in the top of the second inning with two outs but was left on base after a ground ball to third base ended the inning. Basbon started the bottom of the second inning with another single who later moved to second base after a sacrifice bunt. Another strikeout and ground out ended the inning, leaving the runner on second. 

Messiah had an opportunity to score in the top of the third after Haylee Anders hit a triple and Erin Cressman reached first on a passed ball after a third strike swing and a miss. Both Anders and Cressman were left on base after a ground out and a fielder's choice ball. Babson followed in similar fashion in the bottom of the third, stranding two runners after recording two hits. 

Both teams went down one, two, three in the fourth inning but Messiah struck first in the top of the fifth after a solo homerun from Madelynn Yannetti put the Falcons up 1-0. The Beavers went three up and three down for the second inning in a row in the bottom of the fifth. 

Messiah kept things going in the top of the sixth with Ashley Carroll hitting a triple to start the inning. Kara Birosak brought Carroll out with an RBI ground out to the short stop, giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead over the Beavers. Babson hit two fly outs and a ground out in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Messiah had Madelynn Yannetti and Karlee Stocksdale reach on errors and had Haylee Anders reach on a fielder's choice that loaded the bases. Erin Cressman came to the plate and was hit by the pitch, bringing in Messiah's third run of the game. After a pitching change, Ashley Carrole hit an RBI single that gave the Falcons a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. 

The Beavers recorded three-straight fly outs, giving Messiah the 4-0 victory. Madelynn Yannetti pitched all seven innings, recording two strikeouts through 25 at bats.


TCNJ Defeats Messiah 5-1
After the Lions went three up and three down in the top of the first, Messiah got the scoring started after Ashley Carroll hit a double down the left field line. McKenzie Tebbs brought her home with an RBI single to center field to give Messiah a 1-0 lead.

Both teams went scoreless and hitless in the second inning but the Lions took the lead in the top of the third inning. TCNJ started the inning with a walk and a single, putting runners on first and second. The Lions tried to score from second on a fielder's choice ball but were thrown out. Gaby Bennett hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field that brought home the equalizer. Moments later the Lions struck again after an RBI single to left center gave them a 2-1 lead. 

In the bottom of the third, Haylee Anders hit a single to right field and advanced to third after Erin Cressman and Ashley Carroll helped to move her over with a sacrifice ground ball to first and a pop up to left field, respectively. A line drive to second base by Madelynn Yannetti left Anders on third.

The Falcons' Jaelynn Harbold recorded the only hit in the fourth inning after the Lions went down one, two, three. Harbold was left on base in the bottom of the fourth after two popups to second base ended the inning. 

TCNJ stranded two runners in the top of the fifth after a single and a walk put them on base. Messiah did the same thing in the bottom half of the inning. Karlee Stocksdale opened up the inning with a single to right field but was out in a double play after Haylee Anders hit a pop up. Erin Cressman got walked and Ashely Carroll hit a single to left field but both were left on base after a strikeout from Yannetti. 

Both teams went hitless in the sixth inning but the Lions added three runs in the top of the seventh inning. TCNJ got their first runner on base after as single to left field. After an error by the Falcons and another single, the Lions had the bases loaded. A walk brought in the third run for TCNJ before a two-RBI single through the right side gave the Lions a 5-1 lead and eventual win over the Falcons.
