CHESTER, Pa. - The women's track and field team started their 2019 season with a first-place team finish in the Danny Curran Invitational. Over the two days, the Falcons accumulated a total of 91 points through 17 scored events. Messiah had four Falcons finish the weekend with first-place finishes including
Abby McMinn in the 100m hurdles,
Esther Seeland in the 800m,
Alyssa McMinn in the discus, and
Taylor Wiederrecht in the high jump.Â
Day One Results
Leigha Southall led the way for Messiah in the 5,000m, coming through the line in 18:39.95 to finish in fifth-place. Southall's time is more than a minute faster than the MAC-qualifying standard.Â
Ellie Quesenberry rounded out the Falcons' efforts in the event after coming through the line in 23:34.46.Â
In the 10,000m,
Sarah Codd led all Falcons with a third-place finish with a 38.56.91.
Sarah Codd's time puts her tenth all-time in program history.
Danielle Cardone (40:25.34),
Cera Gaston (40:46.49),
Elise Davenport (43:17.27), and
Ally Bishop (44:31.50) also competed in the 10,000m. All Falcons who competed in the 10,000m ran under the MAC qualifying standard.Â
Alyssa McMinn won the discus with a mark of 41.61, a mark just under a meter short of her personal best.
Alecia Rohrer finished in fourth overall with a throw of 36.78m and
Amanda Brown rounded out the Falcons' efforts with a 32.59m throw. All three Falcons passed the conference standard to secure a spot in the MAC Championship.Â
The Falcons finished in 12th, 14th, and 35th-place in the shot put with
Alyssa McMinn leading the way. McMinn threw 10.91m, Rohrer followed closely behind with a mark of 10.76m, and Goodhile threw 9.29m. This trio of Falcons also hit MAC-qualifying marks to compete at the outdoor championships.
Day Two Results
Kathryn Wiederrecht led the way for Messiah in the 100m dash, finishing in seventh overall with a time of 12.91. Wiederrecht also competed in the 4x100m relay and the 100m hurdles. Wiederrecht claimed another seventh-place finish with her 16.51s hurdle race.Â
Ellie Longshaw (13.56) and Julia Geisheimer (13.64) also put up good numbers for the Falcons in the 100m as both qualified for the conference championships in the event.Â
Abby McMinn finished in first-place after hitting a new personal best time of 15.20 seconds in the 100m hurdles.Â
Messiah had two Falcons run MAC-qualfiying times in the 200m with
Taylor Wiederrecht leading the way. Wiederrecht came through the line in 26.39 with teammate
Rebecca Crosley also qualifying after running a 27.96. Wiederrecht also competed in the 400m (58.56) and the high jump, highlighting her performance on the day with a first-place finish in high jump with an easy clear over 1.61m.Â
Kathryn Wiederrecht and
Aja Cunningham represented the Falcons in the 400m hurdles, both finishing in the top-20. Wiederrecht came through the line in 1:08.77 while Cunninham finished in 1:13.27, qualifying them both for the Outdoor MAC Championship meet.
The Falcons had five runners run MAC qualifying times in the 800m with
Esther Seeland (2:12.62) and
Leanne Weaver (2:20.20) highlighting the Falcons' efforts. Seeland's time puts her second all-time in program history. Seeland also competed in the 1500m, finishing second-place with a time of 4:43.12, good for eight all-time in program history.Â
Brieanna Hess (2:26.24),
Emma Johnsen (2:29.32), and
Ashlyn Stonge (2:30.33) all qualified for the outdoor conference championship.
Ally Austen was the lone Falcon in the 3,000m steeplechase. Despite not running with any teammates in the race, Austen finished fifth with a MAC-qualifying time of 13:18.90.
Alyssa McMinn finished in ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.85m.
Emily Gourley cleared a lifetime best height of 1.49m in the women's high jump which gives her a spot at the conference championship.Â
The 4x100m relay squad of
Kathryn Wiederrecht,
Abby McMinn,
Ellie Longshaw, and
Taylor Wiederrecht combined for a total time of 49.66 which puts them sixth all-time in program history.Â
