GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Falcons made their way to North Carolina to take on the Pride of Greensboro College, dropping the first game 9-0. The Falcons were held to just three hits, all of which came off the bat of
Erin Cressman in game one. The Pride recorded 10 hits with zero errors to help secure their win over the Falcons in game one.
In game two, the Falcons struggled offensively, registering three its across the entire game, with Cressman, Birosak, and Stocksdale all collecting one.
Game One, Messiah 0, Greensboro 9
Erin Cressman opened up the game with a single to left field and stole second on the following play.
Haylee Anders hit a ground ball right back to the pitcher that moved Cressman over but gave the Falcons their first out of the inning. Cressman was left on third after ground outs from Rianna Trexler and
Jaelynn Harbold.
The Pride hit a double to right field with one out in the bottom of the first and added to more runners to the bases after one batter walked while another was hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded and two outs, the Pride popped one up to third base that ended the inning with three runners left on base.
Messiah went down one, two, three in the second inning before the Pride collected two runs off of two hits. In the top of the third,
Erin Cressman tripled to right center with two outs but was left stranded after a fly out to center field from
Haylee Anders. The Pride kept Messiah's bats quiet in the top of the fourth while extending their lead by one off a triple, making it 3-0.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Falcons recorded two fly outs and a ground out. The bottom of the fifth was a highlight for the Pride as they scored two runs off a throwing error and another off a wild pitch, giving them the 6-0 advantage over Messiah.
Erin Cressman hit a double to left field in the top of the sixth inning and was moved to third after a fly out to right field from
Haylee Anders. Cressman wouldn't get any further as Rianna Trexler hit a pop fly to second base that would end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Joy Kolakowski struck out the Pride's first batter. The next batter for Greensboro hit a ground out to short stop but Messiah ran into trouble after the Pride hit a single to center followed by a walk that had two runners on with two outs. Greensboro hit a three-run home run over the right field fence to end the game 9-0 in six innings in favor of the Pride.
Game Two, Messiah 0, Greensboro 3
The first inning started out with a ground out from
Erin Cressman but
Haylee Anders reached on a walk. Anders advanced to second on a ground out hit by Rianna Trexler. Anders was left on base after
Sarah Chen hit a fly ball to right field that ended the inning.
Madelynn Yannetti caught the Pride's first batter looking to earn the Falcons' first out of the inning but Greensboro responded with a ground ball up the middle, putting a runner on first. The runner stole second base but ran herself into a pickle play on the next pitch after the Pride hit into fielder's choice. The Falcons faked the throw to first and ran down the runner at second and just missed the double play with a close tag at first base. Messiah ended the inning after
Kara Birosak fielded the routine ground ball and tossed it to
Erin Cressman for the third out.
The Falcons' offense continued to struggle in the top of the second inning as Kara Birsoak flied out right field,
Madelyn Yannetti popped up to first, and
McKenzie Tebbs grounded out to first.
The Pride started the bottom of the second inning with a walk but popped one up to third base before hitting into fielder's choice, giving them two outs with a runner still on first. A wild pitch from Yannetti advanced Greensboro's runner to second but a ground ball to
Kara Birosak ended the inning once again.
After working her way to a 2-2 count,
Karlee Stocksdale went down looking at the start of the third inning.
Ashley Carroll went down swinging, bringing
Erin Cressman to the plate with two outs and no one on. Cressman hit a single right back to the pitcher and beat out the throw, giving the Falcons their first hit of the game.
Haylee Anders flied out to right field on a 3-1 count that would send Messiah back onto the field for the bottom of the third.
Greensboro opened up their half of the third inning with a single line drive that was just outside Yannetti's reach. The Pride kept things going with a bunt to Yannetti that put a runner on first with no outs. Another bunt from Greensboro resulted in a throwing error that led to an unearned run for the Pride. A double to the right center gap helped two runners score, making it 3-0 in favor of Greensboro with zero outs. After a fly out, the Pride grounded into a double play that would end the inning.
After fouling off a handful of pitches with a 3-2 count,
Sarah Chen walked her way to first base with one out but was left stranded after a pair of strikeouts for the Pride.
Greensboro hit a single to center field to start the bottom of the fourth before advancing the runner to second base on a sacrifice bunt play. The runner on second advanced to third as Kira Birosak fielded a ground ball on the right side to give the Pride their second out of the inning. With a runner on first and third, Greensboro popped up to
Erin Cressman to end the inning with the Falcons still trailing 3-0.
With one out,
Karlee Stocksdale hit a strong single to center field but was left on base after a popup to short stop from
Ashley Carroll and a shallow fly ball to right field from
Erin Cressman.
Greensboro started the bottom of the fifth inning with a groundball to
Kara Birosak but hit a single through the left side followed by a single through the right side to put two runners on. Greensboro's Daisy Martin attempted to steal third but
McKenzie Tebbs threw her out to record the second out of the inning. On the next play, the Pride hit a ground ball to short stop that
Erin Cressman fielded cleanly to end the fifth inning.
The Falcons bats stayed quiet in the top of the sixth as they went down one, two, three with two pop ups and a strikeout. The Pride followed in pursuit in the bottom of the six, going down one, two, three with two ground outs and a pop up to short stop to end the quick inning. In the top of the seventh,
Kara Birosak hit a single up the middle to get to first.
Isabel Seise pinch hit for
Madelyn Yannetti but flied out to centerfield. Amanda Peterson came up to bat and reached on fielder's choice with Birosak out at second. A ground ball to the pitcher from
Karlee Stocksdale ended the game 3-0 in favor of Greensboro.
