Falcons' Season Comes to an End After Doubleheader Loss to Lions

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Falcons' season comes to a close after back-to-back losses to the Albright Lions. Messiah fell 6-4 in game one and 5-2 in game two, falling to 18-20 on the season and 7-9 in the conference. With today's losses the Falcons complete their season.

Albright Defeats Messiah 6-4
The Lions got off to a quick start in the first inning. Albright started the day with a single to center field and followed that with a walk to put runners on first and second. A sacrifice bunt then advanced the runners and later a sacrifice fly brought in the Lions' first run of the day. Albright kept it going with a single up the middle to bring in their second run of the inning. 

Messiah went down in order in the bottom of the first inning. Albright hit two ground outs to start the second inning but put two runners on base after back to back single. Madelyn fielded a ground ball right back to her in the circle and ended the inning with a toss to first base. 

The Falcons started the bottom of the second inning with a single to center field from Isabel Seise. Seise advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt from Jaelynn Harbold. Later in the inning, Rianna Trexler brought home Seise with a single up the middle to cut the Lions' lead in half 2-1.

Albright added a run in the third off of a fielder's choice ball and tallied two more in the top of the fourth inning with a single to second base and a run off a passed ball to take a 5-1 lead. The Lions added their final run of the game in the top of the fifth after a single to left brought a runner home to give Albright a 6-1 lead. 

Messiah started their comeback attempt in the bottom of the fifth. Haylee Anders singled down the left field line to get things started but was later at at second after McKenzie Tebbs reached on fielder's choice. Isabel Seise popped up to first which brought Jaelynn Harbold to the plate with two outs. Harbold doubled down the left field line to move Tebbs to third base. Erin Cressman was hit by a pitch, loading the bases as Kara Birosak stepped up to bat. Birosak reached first on an error by third base as Tebbs made her way home. An RBI single from Rianna Trexler brought in Harbold making it 6-3 in favor of the Lions.

The Falcons brought home one more run in the bottom of the seventh to pull within two but a pop up and line out ended game one as the Lions defeated Messiah 6-4. 

Albright Defeats Messiah 5-2
After a walk put a runner on base, the Lions utilized a single through the left side to bring in their first run of the game to take an early 1-0 lead.

Messiah responded right away in the bottom of the first. Ashley Carroll singled to right field and advanced to second on a throwing error by the right fielder. Haylee Anders laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Carroll to third and later, Isabel Seise brought in the equalizer with an RBI double to center field. Seise made her way home after a single up the middle from Jaelynn Harbold, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead.

From the second inning through the fifth, Albright recorded three hits but left five runners stranded on base. Messiah also recorded three hits and left three on base in that same span. The Lions broke through in the top of the sixth inning, recording the equalizer after a groundout and throwing error by the Falcons. The Lions didn't stop there as another throwing error by Messiah gave the Lions a 3-2 lead. 

Messiah started the bottom of the sixth with a fly out to left field but McKenzie Tebbs brought life to the game with a single down the right field line. Isabel Seise kept things going with a single through the right side but Tebbs was out on the play as she went for extra bases and was thrown out after turning around to go back to second. A groundout from Jaelynn Harbold ended the inning as the game moved to the top of the seventh. 

Albright got off to a fast start in the top of the seventh after a single up the middle and reaching on a fielder's choice ball, putting runners on first and second. A ground out to short stop moved the Lions' runners over to third and second. Albright kept the hitting going with a single through the right side to take a 4-2 lead. Albright reached on fielder's choice and attempted to bring in another run in that play but Erin Cressman rifled the ball to McKenzie Tebbs to keep the Lions at 4-2. Albright kept momentum going with a single through the right side to take a 5-2 lead over Messiah.

The Falcons went three up and three down in the bottom of the seventh as they fell to the Lions 5-2 in game two. Messiah finishes their season 18-20 and 7-9 in the conference.
