Falcons Wrap Up Regular Season at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Falcons finished regular season competition today in a windy but sunny day at the Paul Kaiser Invitational hosted by Shippensburg University. Messiah will get ready for the MAC Outdoor Championships that are being held at Widener University next week.

On The Track
Kathryn Wiederrecht led the way for Messiah in the 100m with a time of 12.76. Ellie Longshaw (13.29s) and Kiera Wells (13.89s) both run times that will qualify them for next week's conference championship. Wiederrecht also led the way for Messiah in the 200m as she came through the line in 27.14 seconds. Ellie Longshaw (27.84s) and Rebecca Crosley (27.97s) also competed in the 200m, both finishing with sub-28 second times. Crosley highlighted Messiah's efforts in the 400m as she ran the race in 1:00.94. 

In the 800m, Brieanna Hess and Leigha Southall battled to the line with times of 2:24.32 and 2:24.43, respectively. Mikayla Lewin led the Falcons in the 1,500m with a time of 5:12.88, just running under the MAC qualification standard. 

Cera Gaston was the lone Falcon in the 3,000m, finishing in fifth place with a time of 11:24.76. Ellie Quesenberry represented the Falcons in the 5,000m as she came across the line in 24:14.98.

Abby McMinn highlighted the Falcons' efforts in the 100m hurdles. McMinn came through the line in 14.96 seconds to qualify for the finals. Later in the day, McMinn ran 15.15 to finish in eighth place. Kelsie Kennedy led the way for Messiah in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.68. Leanne Weaver followed closely behind with a time of 1:07.65.

Messiah's 4x100m relay team of Kathryn Wiederrecht, Abby McMinn, Ellie Longshaw, and Taylor Wiederrecht put together a 10th place finish with a time of 50.90 seconds. In the 4x400 relay, Messiah ran two teams with Emma Fertig, Brieanna Hess, Emma Johnsen, and Rachel Grundusky leading the way with a time of 4:36.65.

Field Events
Emily Gourley represented the Falcons in high jump, clearing a height of 1.48m.

America Cervantes set a new lifetime best by a foot in the pole vault, clearing 2.85m. Cervantes' mark qualifies her for the conference championship.

Abby McMinn (4.92m) and Julia Geisheimer (4.81m) led the way for Messiah in the long jump, finishing in 19th and 23rd, respectively. McMinn also triple jumped today, ending the day with a mark of 10.19m.

Alyssa McMinn highlighted the Falcons' efforts in shot put (11.64m) and hammer (44.70m). Alecia Rohrer followed closely behind McMinn in the shot put as she threw 11.19m. Rohrer led the way in discus with a throw of 34.71m. Rohrer also led the way for Messiah in the javelin with a mark of 31.47m. Amanda Brown hit a MAC qualifying mark of 28.65m in the hammer. Abigail Vance also hit a qualifying mark with this one coming in the javelin with a throw of 27.97m. 

What's Up Next
With the regular season now over, the Falcons will next compete at the 2019 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships being contested May 2-4. Messiah has won the last two outdoor championships, both by over 35 points.
