OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Falcons earned two shutout victories over the Stevenson Mustangs, starting the day with a 5-0 win and ending the day with an 8-0 win in game two.
In game one, the Falcons got their bats started in the fourth inning when
Jaelynn Harbold tripled down the right field line to bring
Erin Cressman home and give the Falcons the 1-0 lead. Later in the sixth inning, Harbold added two more RBI's to her stat sheet with a single to left field that brought home two runs to give Messiah a 3-0 lead. In the seventh inning, the Falcons added two more runs to secure the 5-0 victory over the Mustangs.
The Falcons got out to an early 4-0 lead in the second game after Rianna Trexler hit a three-run homer over the left field wall in the second inning and
Erin Cressman hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Messiah worked their way out of a bases loaded situation in the fourth inning and added two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to cap off the conference sweep over the Mustangs.
Messiah Defeats Stevenson 5-0
The Falcons and Mustangs kept things quiet through three full innings. Messiah got things going in the top of the fourth inning.
Erin Cressman made her way to first with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error. In the next at bat,
Jaelynn Harbold tripled down the right field line to bring home the Falcons' first run of the game.
Messiah went down in three in the top of the fifth but got things started again in the top of the sixth.
Haylee Anders started the inning with a double down the left field line. Anders later moved to third after
McKenzie Tebbs put down a sacrifice bunt.
Erin Cressman worked the count and got walked then stole second, putting two runners in scoring position.
Jaelynn Harbold came through for the Falcons for the second time in the game, hitting a single to left and advancing to second on the throw while brining home Anders and Cressman to give Messiah the 3-0 lead.
After two fly outs and a foul out by the Mustangs in the bottom of the sixth, the Falcons tallied two more goals in the top of the seventh.
Haylee Anders came to the plate with
Ashley Carroll on third and
Karlee Stocksdale on home. Anders brought her home with a two-RBI single, giving the Falcons the 5-0 lead and eventual win over the Mustangs in game one.
Emily Albanese pitched all seven innings for the Falcons, facing 28 batters with just six hits allowed.
Messiah Defeats Stevenson 8-0
The Falcons scored in style at the beginning of game two with Rianna Trexler giving Messiah the early lead. After a quick first inning by both teams,
Erin Cressman reached with a single through the left side and
Isabel Seise reached on a fielder's choice. With two runners on, Rianna Trexler hit a three-RBI home run to left field, giving the Falcons the 3-0 lead over the Mustangs.
The Mustangs started the bottom of the second with a fly out to center field but put a runner on after a walk. The Falcons were able to turn two and end the inning.
Erin Cressman added the next run for the Falcons with a solo home run to left field in the top of the fourth, giving Messiah a 4-0 lead.
Messiah fell into some trouble in the bottom of the fourth as a runner reached first on a swinging strikeout wild pitch. The Mustangs attempted to put two on with a ground ball but Messiah got the lead runner out. Back to back singles for Stevenson had the bases loaded with just one out. The next batter for the Mustangs hit into a fielder's choice and the Falcons stopped the runner at home to keep Stevenson scoreless. The Mustangs ended the inning with a fly out to center field.
Messiah got the bats going again in the top of the fifth with
Ashley Carroll hitting a single to left field to lead the way.
Karlee Stocksdale hit into fielder's choice and Carroll was out at second but
Haylee Anders moved Stocksdale to second with a single to second base. Later in the inning,
McKenzie Tebbs reached first on a throwing error to advance Anders to third and bring home Stocksdale, After a wild pitch, Anders made her way home to give the Falcons the 6-0 lead.
The sixth inning was hitless for both teams but Messiah wasn't done yet. In the top of the seventh,
Haylee Anders hit a single to shortstop and
McKenzie Tebbs moved her to second with a single to the short stop as well. In that play, Anders advanced to third on a throwing error and
Sarah Chen came to pinch run for Tebbs.
Erin Cressman hit a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home Anders while Chen made her way through the plate after a throwing error, giving Messiah the 8-0 lead and eventual win over the Mustangs.
Rebekah Pais earned the win in the circle after pitching six full innings with six strikeouts and four hits allowed.
Madelyn Yannetti pitched for the last inning to help the Falcons secure the 8-0 lead over the Mustangs.
What's Up Next
The Falcons are now 13-15 on the season and 4-6 in the conference. They will return to Grantham to take on the Lycoming College Warriors on Apr. 10 at 3:00pm and 5:00pm.
