GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah College men's tennis team hosted the Ursinus Bears for a non-conference match up on Monday afternoon. The Bears defeated the Falcons 9-0 by sweeping their way through doubles and singles play.
How It Happened
In doubles action, Ursinus dominated at the No.2 and No.3 spot, however Messiah put together quite a match at the No. 1 slot.
Galen Fitzkee and
Andrew Bookman had an early lead at the top-spot, however Ursinus was able to come back and tie things up. The Falcons battled, but dropped the match 8-7 (7-0) in the tie-break set.
In singles play,
Alex Mantsevich fought well for the Falcons. He won the first set 6-3, but was defeated in the second set (6-3). Mantsevich battled but dropped the third set 10-6 to Ursinus' Conner DeFaber-Schumacher.
Jarod Snader and
AJ Swanson also competed well in singles action, however they were unable to finish in their close sets and fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, and 6-2, 7-5, respectively.

Messiah will pick up conference play on Wednesday, Apr. 10 when they travel to Lycoming College for a 3:30 p.m. start.
