Three Falcons Earn All-Conference Honors

ANNVILLE, Pa. - On Friday morning the Middle Atlantic Conference announced the MAC Commonwealth men's tennis All-Conference teams. Among the student-athletes honored were a trio of Falcons with Galen Fitzkee earning First Team honors while Andrew Bookman and Alex Mantsevich claimed spots on the Second Team.

Messiah will play in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Match on Saturday morning at top-seeded Stevenson at 11:00 a.m. The Falcons are looking for their sixth-straight Conference Championship.

Galen Fitzkee earns the second First Team All-MAC Commonwealth accolade of his career after he was named the Conference Rookie of the Year and First Team last season. Fitzkee had his named inked in the top singles spot all season long with all 14 of his matches coming on court one. He held a 8-7 overall record on the top court with a 5-1 mark in the conference in the regular season. In doubles play, Fitzkee paired with Andrew Bookman for a 7-7 record at No. 1 singles. The duo played well in conference, turning in a 6-1 record against conference teams.

Like Fitzkee, Andrew Bookman picked up the second All-Conference honor of his career. In his sophomore season, Bookman earned Second Team honors, bumping up from his Honorable Mention nod last season. This season, Bookman has played to an overall record of 6-8 after splitting his time between No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Bookman excelled in conference play and currently holds a 5-0 record against conference foes, including a key 6-3, 6-3 victory in Messiah's 5-3 victory over Lebanon Valley in the semifinals on Wednesday. In doubles play, Bookman primarily partnered with Fitzkee for a 7-7 record as a team.

Alex Mantsevich joined Bookman on the Second Team, repeating his Second Team honor from last year. Mantsevich played No. 3 singles for a majority of the season, turning in a record of 6-9 on the season. Against conference foes, Mantsevich went 3-2 on the year. In doubles, he partnered with Bryson Boettger and the duo turned in a 4-11 overall record (2-4 in conference) in the No. 2 doubles match.

As mentioned, the Falcons will be in action on Saturday morning when they travel to Owings Mills, Md. for the the MAC Commonwealth Championship Match at 11:00 p.m. against the Stevenson Mustangs.
