ASTON, Pa. - The Messiah women's volleyball team defeated Rosemont College 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-6) Saturday afternoon at the Neumann Knights Invitational. Messiah dominated throughout the match against the Ravens.
Rachel Garratt led the Falcons with nine kills, while
Rachel Rashford and
Kristen Seibert each recorded 13 assists.
In their second match of the day, the Falcons continued their dominance on the court against Neumann University, defeating the Knights 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-16). Five Falcons recorded five or more kills in the match, with
Mary Underman leading the team with 12 kills.
This win improves the Falcons to 11-3 overall and 1-1 in the MAC Commonwealth. Messiah is back in action Wednesday night inside Hitchcock Arena when Arcadia University comes to town for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
Messiah Defeats Rosemont College 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-6)
Messiah had six players record at least one kill during a 25-13 set one victory. In game two Messiah held a 9-8 lead before taking advantage of Ravens errors to go on a 10-3 run to gain a 19-11 advantage. Rosemont cut the lead to 24-17, but Messiah was able to win the next point and take set two 25-17. Messiah dominated the third set, using three separate 7-0 runs to win the game 25-6 and take the match 3-0.
The Falcons used 13 players in the match, with four players recording five or more kills. Seven Falcons combined for 15 aces in the match.
Messiah Defeats Neumann University 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-16)
Both teams traded jabs early in this one, with Messiah gaining the 15-13 advantage halfway through set one. The Falcons then snatched the momentum thanks to a 4-0 run that was fueled by a pair of
Mary Underman kills and a kill from
Hannah Berger, giving Messiah a 19-13 lead. Neumann was not able to find their way back into the game, falling 25-19 in set one.
With both teams jockeying for position in game two, Neumann found themselves up 19-16. Messiah then used a pair of
Natalie Marsch kills to spearhead a 7-1 run and go up 23-20. The Knights rattled off two straight points to get to within one, but kills from
Lanae Hunsberger and Underman finished off a 25-22 set win.
With things knotted early at 4-4, the Falcons recorded six straight points to make it 10-4. This run proved to be the difference in the game. Neumann cut the lead to four after a 3-0 run made it 14-10, but that was as close as they got, with Messiah taking the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
It was another team effort for the Falcons as five more players recorded at least five kills in the match. With her play, junior
Amanda Dahlman was named to the All-Tournament team.

After their impressive weekend, Messiah returns home to Hitchcock Arena Wednesday night where they face off with Arcadia University at 7:00 p.m.
