Men's Track and Field Shows Well At Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Falcons traveled to Susquehanna University to compete in the Orange and Maroon Classic. Notably, freshman Josiah Provan completed his first collegiate heptathlon, finishing the day with a MAC qualifying score of 3,084 points. Provan hit personal bests in the 60m, shot put, high jump, 60m hurdles, pole vault, and the 1,000m in the two-day competition. 

Messiah had Andrew Schott (9.15s), Josiah Zehr (9.31s), and Joel Rhinehart (9.50s) compete in the 60m hurdle finals, finishing in fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. 

Nate Romberger led the way for Messiah in the mile, coming through the line in 4:37.27, edging out teammate Alex Scheib (4:37.97), as the pair finished in sixth and seventh. Romberger made an impressive move about midway through the race, jumping up from 15th place to 8th place at the 809m split (2:20.02).

Starting the Season 
As mentioned, Josiah Provan finished up his first collegiate heptathlon with a 11.22 second 60m hurdle race, a 2.74m clearance in the pole vault, and a 3:16.41 to cap off the day, finishing in seventh place with 3,084 points. 

In the 60m hurdles, the Falcons Josiah Zehr (9.20s), Joel Rhinehart (9.23s), Andrew Schott (9.38s), and Mike Williams (9.69s) compete in the prelims. Zehr, Rhinehart, and Schott qualified for the finals. The trio took fourth through sixth with Schott leading the way with a 9.15 second race while Zehr ran a 9.31 with Rhinehart coming through in 9.50 seconds. Schott also competed in the high jump, finishing with a clearance over 1.73m to take fourth.

In the 60m, Brendan Provan won his heat with a time of 7.32 seconds. In the mile, Nate Romberger and Alex Scheib battled their way to the finish line with Romberger earning the advantage with a time of 4:37.27 while Scheib finished with a time of 4:37.97. Josiah Moyer followed closely behind, finishing in ninth place with a time of 4:38.20. Arik Hostetler was the lone Falcon competing in the 800m, running a 2:10.51 to finish in 11th place. 

In the 5,000m, Andrew Hutchinson took 13th place with a time of 16:49.34. Ryan McAllister took 16th place with a time of 17:36.37 while James Sahakian took 19th place with a 17:40.69.

In the 4x400m relay, Cassidy Hoffman, Arik HostetlerLogan Horst, and Alex Scheib combined for a 3:46.77 to take fifth place. 

In the pole vault, Caleb Christner led the way for the Falcons, clearing 4.05m to take third place. Josiah Zehr finished with the same clearance but took fifth place by virtue of attempts.

The Falcons will be back in action next weekend on Jan. 25 at Franklin and Marshall starting at 10 a.m.
