Falcons Perform Well at Orange and Maroon Classic

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Messiah women's track and field team traveled to Susquehanna University to compete in the Orange and Maroon Classic. The Falcons put up multiple impressive performances, including some from Kathryn Wiederrecht, who competed in seven events total, winning the 60m hurdles (9.56s) and 60m dash (8.09s) while finishing in second place in the 200m (27.55s). Wiederrecht also helped Messiah win the 4x200m relay (1:52.65) and the 4x400m relay (4:12.38). 

In the 5,000m, Sarah Codd won with a time of 18:59.62 with teammates Cera Gaston (19:17.79) and Katelyn Prothero (19:52.51) finishing in third and sixth, respectively. 

In the throws, Amanda Brown hit a mark of 10.90m in the weight throw to finish in ninth on the day. Lila Goodhile led the way for the Falcons in the shot put, throwing 10.33m on her second throw of finals to place fifth. 

Falcons Soar
As mentioned, Kathryn Wiederrecht had a busy day on the track but proved to be unfazed as she coasted through her 60m hurdle prelim (9.51s) and the 60m prelim (8.13s). Sophomore Ellie Longshaw joined Wiederrecht in the 60m, running 8.39 to qualify for the final. Wiederrecht ran 8.09 in the final to finish in first while Longshaw ran 8.47 to take sixth. Wiederrecht finished the 60m hurdle finals with a time of 9.56 seconds. Wiederrecht also ran a 27.55 second race in the 200m to take second place. Longshaw came through the line in 27.98 seconds to finish in sixth place in the event while Julia Geisheimer finished in 10th with a 28.59. Wiederrecht, Longshaw, Geisheimer, and Hannah McCurdy also combined for a 1:52.65 in the 4x200m relay, winning the event by nearly three seconds. Geisheimer also competed in the long jump, hitting a mark of 4.61m to finish in 14th place. 

Esther Seeland made her return to the track this weekend, running the mile, coming across the line in 5:07.21 with teammate Leanne Weaver finishing in second with a time of 5:10.71. The pair also teamed up with Ellissa Slader and Kat Wiederrecht to win the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:12.38 at the end of the day. 

In the 800m, Ellissa Slader led the way for Messiah, coming through the line in 2:27.94 to take second while Laura Kruth finished in 2:32.09 to take fourth. Emma Johnsen (2:33.67) and Olivia Cory (2:34.23) fought together in the event to finish in sixth and seventh, respectively. 

As mentioned, Sarah Codd won the 5,000m with a time of 18:59.62 with Cera Gaston coming across the line in 19:17.79 to take third. Katelyn Prothero took sixth place with a time of sixth place. 

Amanda Brown finished the weight throw in ninth place with a mark of 10.90m, her first throw of the day. Lila Goodhile led the way for Messiah in the shot put with a mark of 10.33m to take fifth place. Brown hit a mark of 9.34m to finish the day in 11th while Erin Haines threw 9.23m to take 14th place. 

In the high jump, Emily Gourley cleared 1.42m to finish the day in ninth place. In the pole vault, freshman Bayley Hess highlighted the Falcons' efforts with a 2.75m clearance on her second attempt, finishing in third place. America Cervantes ended the day with back to back third attempt clearances, finishing with 2.45m.
