Women's Lacrosse - Blue defeats White, 11-10 in overtime
The Messiah women's lacrosse team took the field on a chilly Saturday afternoon for a Blue vs. White intersquad scrimmage. The Blue team earned an 11-10 overtime victory in the contest with
Makenzie Schnur netting the game winner two minutes into overtime. The Blue squad held a four goal lead late in the third quarter, but White battled back to tie the game and force overtime, but Schnur's game winner lifted Blue to the victory.
Playing 14-minute quarters rather than the traditional halves, Messiah saw a number of strong efforts from both squads on the offensive and defensive ends.
Abbyellen Wood got the scoring started for the Blue, but White took a 2-1 lead after the opening quarter thanks to tallies from
Amanda Wadsworth and
Ehryn Groothoff later in the period. The second quarter saw Blue outscore the White side 4-1 to take a 5-3 lead into the half.
Katie Heck notched a pair of goals in the period for Blue. Between the pipes,
Mackenzie O'Haver and
Heather Burnham made solid saves on back-to-back possessions in the middle of the period.
After the half, Blue extended their lead to as many as four at 9-5 late in the third quarter thanks to back-to-back goals from
Rachel Delate and
Katie Heck, but
Hope Flack and
Jana Krihak countered with consecutive tallies to close the gap to 9-7 with a quarter remaining. The comeback continued into the fourth quarter as the White team found goals from
Ehryn Groothoff and
Amanda Wadsworth to tie things up at 9-9.
After
Abby Howard (Blue) and
Amanda Wadsworth (White) traded goals in the final two minutes, the contest headed to a three-minute overtime period. Two minutes into overtime, the Blue team executed a full-field clear opportunity with
Abby Howard finding
Makenzie Schnur in transition for the tally and the 11-10 victory.

Field Hockey - Blue defeats White, 4-2
The Messiah field hockey team took the field on Saturday afternoon for a Blue vs. White intersquad scrimmage. The Blue team featured a line-up littered with the entirety of the senior class, playing together on the same team for the last time. The experience paid off as the Blue team earned a 4-2 victory over the White squad. A half dozen different Falcons scored in the contest.
Two first-quarter goals by the Blue team put them up 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Josie Weaver struck first just six minutes into the game and seven minutes later
Hannah Palm showed off her stick work before bouncing a shot past the goalie for a 2-0 lead.
Just minute into the second quarter, the Blue team added another tally to make it 3-0. After an initial shot by
Mackenzie Brubaker was saved,
Abby Boyer was right there to clean up the rebound and make it a three-goal lead.
That 3-0 lead held until halftime, but a tally by
Jennie Young off of a corner gave the White team their first score of the contest. The White squad pulled within one early in the third quarter off of a score from
Makayla Malcolm.
After the two-straight scores by White, the Blue team got back on the board with an insurance goal by
Lindsay McFeaters in the fourth quarter. It was the final score of the game and gave Blue at 4-2 victory.
