Falcons Earn Nine Top-10 Finishes at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Matthew Royer led the Falcons on Saturday by winning the 800 meter Run with a time of 1:58.35 at the Frank Colden Invitational, hosted by Ursinus College. Royer's top time was one of Messiah's nine top-10 finishes on the day. Brendan Provan covered 13.69 meters in the triple jump, for Messiah's second-best finish of the day, taking second place.

Messiah earned a pair of top-10 finishes in relays with the 4x400 meter relay (3:35.75) taking sixth place and the 4x200 meter relay earning ninth with a time of 1:39.05.

The Falcons will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to the Susquehanna Open on Feb. 15. The action gets started at 9:30 a.m.

Notable Performances
Matthew Royer claimed the Falcons' only victory on the day with a stellar performance in the 800 meter. In a time of 1:58.35, Royer was nearly a full second ahead of the second-place finisher, Gerald Amobi from Delaware State (1:59.33). Only three runners broke the two second mark in the race.

In the triple jump, Brendan Provan turned in a strong runner-up performance with a distance of 13.69 meters. After consistently jumping in the mid to high 12 meters on his first three jumps, Provan achieved his second-place finish on his fourth and final attempt.

Messiah claimed two other top-10 individual performances on Saturday from a pair of freshmen. Josiah Moyer claiming eighth in the 5000 meter in a time of 16:16.36. Dickinson's Bryce Descavish won the event, getting through the line in 15:31.20.

Josiah Zehr advanced to the finals of the 60 meter hurdles with a prelim time of 9.10. He knocked off two tenths of a second in the finals for a time of 8.93 to take ninth in the field. The winning time of 8.50 was turned in by Delaware State's Elijah Mclaren.

Messiah's top 4x400 meter relay team got through the line in sixth place in a time of 3:35.75 while the Falcons' 4x200 meter relay team finished in ninth with a mark of 1:39.05.

Three Falcons finished in the top-10 in the men's pentathlon. Caleb Puleo led Messiah with a third-place finish in the event with 2,783 points. His day was highlighted with strong performances in the 60 meter hurdles (9.38 - 664 points) and the 1000 meter (2:58.73 - 677 points). Josiah Provan took seventh in the pentathlon with 2,285 points, his best performance came in the 1000 meter (3:12.86 - 544 points). Ian McIlrath rounded out the Falcons' effort in the event with a 10th-place finish. He finished with 2,062 points, picking up at least 500 points in both the shot put (10.25m - 501 points) and the 1000 meter (3:14.12 - 533 points).

Messiah will now travel to Susquehanna next weekend for the Susquehanna Open. The events gets started on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 9:30 a.m.
