Messiah Takes Down Lancaster Bible College

Grantham, Pa – The Messiah women's volleyball team swept Lancaster Bible College 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-23) on Friday night. Chayney Barnhart led the Falcons with 10 kills along with two aces and three block assists. Messiah is back in action on October 6 when they host Stevenson University at 7:00 in Grantham, Pa.
 
Messiah defeats Lancaster Bible 3-0
The Falcons took down the Chargers on Friday night, beating them 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-23). Chayney Barnhart totaled 10 kills on the night and tacked on two aces and three block assists.
 
The first set went back and forth with neither team taking full control with the Falcons gaining a 3-point advantage at 8-5. The Chargers rattled off six straight points to take the lead at 11-8 and proceeded to go up 15-12. The Falcons then took command late in the first set, going on a 13-2 run to win the first set 25-17. Messiah used 12 kills in the first set to go up 1-0. Caitlin Lielbriedis, Chayney Barnhart and Mackenzie Feight all tallied three kills in the first set.
 
In set number two, Messiah never trailed in the set and the jumped out to an early 7-1 lead, which later turned into a strong 12-4 lead. The Chargers would use an overturned call to win the next seven points to be within one of the Falcons at 12-11. That's the closest the Chargers would be in the set as Messiah pulled away to win the second set 25-18 and took a two-set lead into the third. Barnhart added four of the team's 11 kills in this set.
 
The third set was well fought by both teams, with Lancaster Bible having the slight edge midway through the set. The Chargers had leads of 12-9, 17-13, 20-17 and finally 22-20 but it was Messiah who came through and took the third and final set. Messiah won five of the last six points to claim the set 25-23 and win the match 3-0.
 
Stats
Chayney Barnhart lead the team with ten kills with Caitlin Lielbriedis and Mackenzie Feight each adding six kills in the match. Messiah totaled 35 kills in the match.
 
Kristen Seibert had a strong night, recording a double-double with 28 assists and 14 digs. The 14 digs were tied for a team high with Hailey Miller. Seibert also added two blocks assists to her stat sheet tonight.
 
Up Next
The Falcons will host the Stevenson Mustangs in a Conference showdown on Jordan Court in Hitchcock Arena on October 6 at 7:00PM. It is also the Educator Appreciation Day match.
