Dickow, Lamison Record First-Career Goals As Falcons Soar On Road

FREDERICK, Md. – The No. 8 Messiah field hockey team earned a commanding win on the road at Hood College on Wednesday afternoon, topping the Blazers, 8-0. The Falcons used seven different goal scorers in the victory, highlighted by first-career goals from Kate Dickow and Abby Lamison. On the game, the Falcons outshot Hood, 33-1, improving their overall record to 10-2 (5-0 MAC Commonwealth).
 
The Falcons, riding off momentum from a dramatic come-from-behind victory on Saturday afternoon, did not wait long to jump out to an early lead. Young tallied her sixth goal of the season just 1:33 into the contest to give Messiah a 1-0 edge over the Blazers. The goal was an unassisted tally as Young notched her eighth point in the past three games. With a 1-0 lead, Messiah continued to pressure the Hood defense. In the first 11 minutes of the contest, Messiah recorded a total of eight shots and earned six penalty corner opportunities. The period ended with the Falcons owning a one-goal lead, outshooting the Blazers 10-1.
 
Following three shots and two penalty corners in the opening three minutes of the second quarter, Ashley Levesque doubled Messiah's lead to 2-0 with her second goal of the season. Teagan Murrie and Kate Dickow followed Levesque's tally with goals of their own, scoring just 42 seconds apart from each other to give the Falcons a commanding 4-0 advantage. Dickow's goal was the first of her career as Murrie notched her seventh goal of the season.
 
The first half belonged to the Falcons, earning a total of 11 penalty corners while firing off 22 shots. Megan North added Messiah's fifth goal of the game with just under four minutes remaining in the half as the Falcons led going into the break, 5-0.
 
The opening four minutes of play proved to be scoreless before Makayla Malcolm, who was named MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this season, added her name to the score sheet to increase Messiah's lead to 6-0. Malcolm added her second goal of the game just six minutes later to make it a 7-0 contest, her team-leading eleventh goal of the season. Ashlyn Smith provided the assist on the goal, her 15th point of the season.
 
Messiah's advantage was 7-0 heading into the final quarter of play. The Falcons' began the scoring for the fourth quarter just 2:33 into the period, a goal that was filled with career-firsts. Lamison found the back of the cage for her first-career goal, assisted by North, which was her first-career assist. Prior to the goal, Lamison had recorded just one shot on the season.
 
Of Messiah's eight goals, five were assisted efforts. Providing assists on goals included Lindsay McFeaters, Dickow, Levesque, North, and Smith.
