Five Falcons Score, Women's Soccer Claims Ninth-Straight Shutout

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The No. 10 Messiah women's soccer team peppered Gabi Dolan between the pipes for the Hood Blazers with 16 shots on frame on a rainy Tuesday night. Their consistent pressure resulted in a 5-0 victory with five different Falcons finding the back of the net. For the Falcons the win ends the MAC Commonwealth regular season with a perfect 8-0-0 record.

The Falcons scored three goals before the break with Kenzie Spodnik, Brianna Seip, and Thea Neimond denting the scoreboard. After the half, Bella Touzeau slotted through a penalty kick and Mallory Johnson scored to add some insurance as the Falcons rolled the Blazers 5-0.

Messiah outshot the Blazers 30-2 in the match with plenty of chances to finish the night with more than five tallies. The Falcons rattled two shots off the crossbar and a third off the post.

With the victory, Messiah pushed their MAC Commonwealth regular season unbeaten streak to 148 matches, dating back to the start of the 2001 season. The Falcons finished the conference regular season with a record of 8-0-0, outscoring opponents 26-0 in those contests.

Messiah will finish up the regular season on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Salisbury to take on the Sea Gulls at 3:30 p.m.

Two Early Ones
The Falcons were on the front foot from the opening touch. Messiah attempted 14 shots in the first half and 30 total in the match, putting a total of eight shots on frame in each half. The Falcons had plenty of chances early, but were able to cash in off a corner kick in the ninth minute.

Kenzie Spodnik sent a corner kick toward the goal mouth in the ninth minute. Gabi Dolan, the Blazers' keeper went to punch the service away, but the swing was misjudged and the ball knocked off her arm and into the back of the net.

Three minutes later, the Falcons doubled their lead with a tally from Brianna Seip. Jessie Fisher fed Seip a through ball at the top of the box while being tripped. Seip touched the ball around a defender and created a one-on-one with the keeper. A right-footed ground shot knocked off the right post before nestling in the back of the net for a 2-0 Falcons lead.

Just Before the Break
In the 44th minute, Messiah found their third goal of the half off a strike from Thea Neimond. After receiving a pass from the midfield with her back to goal, Neimond bullied her way to the left-side of the box with a defender on her back. With the keeper coming off her line slightly, Neimond pushed through her second goal of the year for a 3-0 lead as the match turned to the break.

Adding Insurance
Messiah netted a pair of goals in the 73rd and 77th minutes with Bella Touzeau netting a penalty kick goal and Mallory Johnson finishing off a rebound to get the Falcons to their eventual winning margin of 5-0.

In the 73rd minute, Touzeau stepped up the spot and calmly slotted through second goal in as many games to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead.

Just minutes later, Lindsay Haseltine beat the keeper to her left, but the attempt rattled off the right post. The rebound fell right to the foot of Mallory Johnson, who stepped up and knocked home her first goal of the season for a 5-0 lead.

Messiah rolled to the 5-0 victory, moving the Falcons to 13-2-1 overall on the season.
