Horst Tops All Competition As Falcons Soar At DeSales Invitational

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Messiah men's cross country team placed second in the DeSales University Invitational (8K) at DeSales University on Saturday morning. The Falcons posted a team score of 73, led by Logan Horst, who recorded a first-place finish out of 189 total runners. Horst's time of 26:11 was also a team-best mark as Kyle Costello recorded a top-ten finish as well, finishing seventh overall with a time of 26:49.
 
Costello recorded a season-best 8K mark, besting his previous-best time of 27:22 from last week at the Mike Woods Invitational. For the Falcons, finishing behind Costello was Josiah Moyer, placing 12th overall with a season-best time of 26:59, Noah Calisti (27:29), and Isaac Covert (27:29). Both Calisti and Covert finished with nearly identical times, as Calisti edged out his teammate but just two-tenths of a second. Covert's mark was a new personal-best 8K time. Overall, Messiah had six runners finish in the top 30 of all competitors.
 
Additionally, 12 Falcons finished in the top 65 runners. Messiah runners who finished in the top 65 and recorded new season-best 8K times include Costello, Moyer, Covert, Cassidy Hoffman (27:36), Ray Truex (27:58), Xander Smith (28:28), and Adam Hostetler (28:48).
 
With an overall team finish of second place, the Falcons have earned fourth top-three team finish of the season. With a great team performance that included many individual achievements, Messiah further built momentum ahead of next Saturday's competition.

Messiah will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 16, when it competes in the Aubrey Shenk Invitational (8K) at Gettysburg College at 10:30 a.m.
