GREENWOOD, Ind. – Messiah men's soccer's
Trevor Goodling and
Luke Groothoff and women's soccer's
Esther Seeland were honored with CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, announced on Thursday afternoon. Seeland, a CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team selection during the 2020-21 academic year, earns her second CoSIDA Academic accolade. Goodling and Groothoff each earn their second CoSIDA Academic honors as well, with Goodiling receiving an Academic All-American First Team nod last season and Groothoff claiming a First Team honor during his sophomore season (2019-20 academic year).
Both Goodling (3.96 GPA, Finance) and Groothoff (3.96 GPA, Biomedical Art & Design) were named to the Academic All-District First Team as Seeland (3.99 GPA, Biomedical Engineering) was named to the First Team as well.
In addition to excelling in the classroom, the three Messiah soccer student-athletes have made notable and lasting impacts on the field for their respective teams.
Seeland, a senior defender who has notched four goals on the season, contributed the game-winning goal in a 3-0 victory over visiting York College (Pa.) in the MAC Commonwealth Championship game last Saturday (Nov. 6). Seeland has anchored a Messiah defense that allowed the fewest goals in the MAC Commonwealth (8), leading to an All-MAC Commonwealth honorable mention.
Goodling, an All-MAC Commonwealth First Team member, leads the Falcons in goals with seven, also dishing out three assists. Groothoff, who has contributed five goals and an assist, also earned a First Team All-MAC Commonwealth nod.
