ANNVILLE, Pa. – On Monday morning, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) released its conference weekly awards for the week ending on Nov. 7. Four Messiah student-athletes earned weekly accolades, as
Jenna Skurcenski (women's soccer),
Makayla Malcolm (field hockey),
Jake Lent-Koop (men's soccer), and
Sophie Schulze (women's swimming) all received honors.
Skurcenski, Lent-Koop, and Malcolm all earned respective conference tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors over the weekend as field hockey and both men's and women's soccer clinched MAC Commonwealth Championships in Grantham on Saturday. Schulze made integral contributions in women's swimming victory over Arcadia University (153-109) on Saturday afternoon.
Jenna Skurcenski – Women's Soccer – MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Skurcenski's MVP defensive performace in Messiah's 6-0 win over visiting Albright College on Thursday night in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals and 3-0 victory over York College (Pa.) in the title game on Saturday earned her MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week. Tallying an assist on the Falcons' second goal on Saturday, Skurcenski anchored a defense that allowed zero goals across the two tournament games, allowing just four shots on goal to lead Messiah to its 18th conference title in program history.
Jake Lent-Koop – Men's Soccer – MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Lent-Koop provided the dramatic, conference-clinching goal in Saturday's defeat of visiting Lebanon Valley College (2-1) in the MAC Commonwealth Championship. The junior defender added a tally in Wednesday's 2-0 Semifinal victory over Stevenson University, leading a Messiah defense that allowed just five shots on goal across the two postseason contests.
Makayla Malcolm – Field Hockey – MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week
Malcolm had a season-best performance in Saturday's 7-3 victory over Widener University, recording a game-high seven points on three goals and an assist. The junior forward increases her season total in goals to a team-leading 14 ahead of Messiah's NCAA First Round contest opposite Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening. Malcolm claims her third conference weekly honor of the season.
Sophie Schulze – Women's Swimming – MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week
Schulze was dominant in Messiah's road victory over Arcadia on Saturday, leading the 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish (1:54.06). Additionally, Schulze placed first in the 1000 Freestyle (11:30.57) and the 500 Freestyle (5:31.43).
