Men's Track & Field Earn Victory In Home Meet

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah men's track and field team opened the 2021 season with a victory on Starry Outdoor Track, earning 176 team points to edge out York (Pa.) who finished in second with 154 points. The Falcons will travel to York (Pa.) on Apr. 1 for their next competition.
 
In The Results
Senior Brendan Provan had a dominate outing as he won the 100m (11.34s), long jump (6.72m), and triple jump (14.27m), setting personal bests in both jumps. The senior's triple jump effort placed him sixth all-time in Messiah men's triple jump history. Provan also served as the anchor leg of the 4x100m relay with Zachary Mayro, Joshua Horst, and Andrew Schott making up the rest of the team. The squad took second in the event with a time of 44.29 seconds. Mayro and Horst also performed well in the 100m, finishing in third place and sixth place with times of 11.68 seconds and 11.94 seconds, respectively. Mayro led the charge for the Falcons in the 200m with a seventh-place finish, crossing the line in 24.31.
 
In the 400m, Connor Daudt was the lone Falcon running, finishing in fifth place with a time of 54.84 seconds. Messiah placed a trio of runners in the top-eight of the 800m with Logan Horst (2:06.13), Luke Myers (2:08.43), and Jack Daudt (2:08.73), finishing in fourth, sixth, and seventh, respectively. Horst also showed well in the 1500m, running 4:17.32 to take third and score six more points for the team. Ray Truex also competed in the 1500m, taking eighth place with a time of 4:22.58.
 
Josiah McCarthy and Noah Calisti led the way for Messiah in the 5,000m, running 16:13.47 and 16:18.13 to take third and fifth. In the 10,000m, Brody Beiler threw down a second all-time performance for Messiah, crossing the line in 31:18.06 in his debut as a Falcon. Kyle Costello and James Sahakian also competed in the event, running 33:35.13 and 35:36.45 to finish in second and fourth, respectively.
 
A trio of Falcons competed in the 110m hurdles, finishing in fourth, fifth, and sixth with Andrew Schott leading the pack in 16.76 while Aedan Wilkinson ran 18.45 and Josiah Provan ran 19.51. Joel Rhinehart took third place in the 400m hurdles, running a time of 1:02.06 while Ryan Thurber and Aedan Wilkinson took fifth and sixth with times of 1:03.95 and 1:04.84.
 
In the 4x400m relay, Messiah's A squad took third as Ray Truex, Cassidy Hoffman, Luke Myers, and Ryan Thurber combined for a time of 3:45.68.
 
Derek Heisey led the Falcons' efforts in the high jump, ending the day in second place with a jump of 1.87m (6' 1.5"). Andrew Schott cleared 1.77m (5' 9.75") in the event to take fourth place.
 
Josiah Zehr was the only Messiah competitor in the pole vault and didn't disappoint as he took first place, clearing 3.95m (12' 11.5").
 
In the discus, Christian Pilawski took sixth place with a throw of 35.56m (116' 8"). Pilawski finished in fourth place in javelin after throwing 42.84m (140' 7") on his first attempt of the day.

As mentioned, Messiah will be back in action on April 1 at the York College of Pennsylvania. Following that, the Falcons will return to Grantham for the Messiah Multi and Invitational.
