WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Messiah men's tennis team ran away with a 9-0 victory Thursday afternoon at Lycoming College. The Falcons used strong performances from
Jarod Snader,
Jonathan Baker, and
AJ Swanson as the trio took home victories for Messiah in both doubles and singles play. With the victories, Snader moves to 3-0 in singles while moving to 2-1 in doubles play. Freshman
Michael Niemi also picked up his first victory as a Falcon in the match. Messiah will get over a week off before hosting York College (Pa.) on Saturday, Apr. 10 on Criste Courts at 1:00 p.m.
Doubles Play
The Falcons got off to a great start in doubles play with the top two courts winning by identical 8-5 scores. The Warriors would forfeit the third court to send it to singles play with Messiah leading 3-0.
Singles Play
Michael Niemi got the Falcons off to a hot start in singles, winning in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) over Jason Anderson to put Messiah up 4-0.
AJ Swanson followed with a straight set win of his own to help claim the match at 5-0.
Andrew Bookman followed with a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win over Nate Redell to make it 6-0.
Due to time constraints, the final few matches were forced to play a single eight game pro set, while Lycoming forfeited the sixth court. Messiah came away with a 9-0 win to move to 2-1 on the season.
